Darth Caesium, 09 Apr 2023Imagine if they made 16:9 camera sensors. I'd be licki... moreYes that would be too cool. Right now the 16:9 format is nothing but a 9 mp crop. They should have a 64 mp (16 mp effectively) new 16:9 sensor and a new killer powerful Tensor!

I agree, those curved sides are nothing more than a nuisance... Flat is better, looks trendier too. Is this going to have a super powerful Tensor III or a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ? A powerful Tensor would be great! But if they don't change the camera, I won't be buying it. According to Adobe AI, we're still using the Pixel 3 XL camera!!

Sony is not going to develop new sensor. Sony electronics can easily just order a variant of any sensor available. Imx557 is variant of imx555. All cost of development came out of samsung pocket. Now just needs to ask for a copy of iphone's sensor (imx803) and done.

Xperia is much narrower, there is no space for periscope in the with the imx486. Guess why pro-i has 50mm cam instead.

Sony is not gonna put a 6mm cam bump like xiaomi and oppo to have 1" behind 24mm.
Pro-i uses 60% of it to avoid this.

This is complete trash with a Tensor G3 chipset and a very ugly camera setup it's DOA on arrival like its previous models.🤡😊🙊

TrainingAddict, 16 Mar 2023On a phone-sized screen, yes problem when you want to view ... more16:9 FHD only uses 2.08MP resolution. Even 16:9 4K only uses 8.3MP resolution, so it doesn't matter if you have something like a 27" 4K external monitor. They are still viewable. Only 16:9 8K needs a high 33.18MP resolution, but we don't have any 8K monitors to date.

sohail shafayat, 16 Mar 2023I am not comparing 12MP cameras with 48MP/108MP/200MP camer... moreI can't help but think that Sony missed the opportunity by not giving the option to shoot photos in 3:2 for the Xperia Pro-I. Also, I can't see the need for Sony to develop a completely different 12MP sensor when the existing RX100 20.1MP sensor is already more than good enough. Just put a 24mm effective focal length, and job done.

That's kind of a stupid move. At least the bezels are thinner with a curved screen.

And judging from the renders the 8 Pro will have much thicker bezels.

I personally like it curved as swiping feels better, but I'm fine without it as long as the bezel is equally as thin (which it isn't).

All I want to say is 12MP is not enough and the 48MP/108MP/200MP images are useless except those are from iPhone 14 Pro. I am not talking about image quality either. The problem is the 12MP sensors are in 4:3 format and these 4:3 images fit nowhere, NOWHERE! there is NO 3:2 shotting mode in any phone. if you want to shoot in 16:9 the image resolution decreases drastically. it's a mess. 3:2 20MP-24MP cameras should be the future.

I'm currently using an S22 plus and the round corners sometimes really piss me off when they cut out content
In full screen, pictures are always cut out in the corners
Still, it's not as bad as the iPhone 14 pro max which i'm pretty sure has the most rounded corners out of any phone
I was gonna go for the S22 ultra just for this reason but a curved screen is even worse than round corners so i went for the plus

Considering their phone business is small, that is huge money.

Everything about this is trash from the chipset which is a Tensor G3 aka Exynos which the S23 series didn't even use. The camera setup still looks ugly and the camera software on this trash is still not going to be an as good period. The only way this will be a good phone is if you can get it for free then maybe it's worth getting and that's the painful truth.🤡😊🙊
