SirArtur, 27 Mar 2023Unfortunately, GCAM does not support full res on S23 Ultra,... moreYes...the potential of the hardware has been there for years, but Samsung never properly exploited it, this "expert RAW" I do have a faint impression of but it hardly gets mention in reviews, a shame, only if Andrei were still at Anandtech would we get such coverage. It sort of sounds like Lightroom Mobile's 3 frame auto HDR mode that was removed from recent versions in that it could provide superior resolution, but only under optimal conditions.

this is simply MAGNIFICENT, spectacular... perfect. And I will never get it because it won't arrive in Europe. Very sad. And what is that price... 800euro for such a beast? simply WOW.

And the most exciting part is that only in perfect light conditions 50 Mpix ExpertRAW is better than 12 Mpix from GCAM! That shows two things - that the S23 Ultra has some great potential, and that the processing of Samsung apps is terrible. You can find some examples on the XDA forum. I don't see any reason now to open either the base camera app or ExpertRAW.
As for lenses - all lenses work just fine in the GCAM.

Does Gcam on S23 support full res output now? Are all the modules usable?

S Yu, 24 Mar 2023Actually I was thinking that 65 is in the middle of nowhere... moreWell, telephoto is a matter of personal taste and needs I assume. I have S23 Ultra and did not even once switched to 10x. The sweet spot for me is something around 60-80 for a good portrait lens, so for me is alright. Well, 2.6 is what they get from the combination of the length and lens size. I assume that they came to the conclusion that the camera bump is big enough, and didn't want to make it even bigger. Anyways, it is for me one of the best zoom lenses that you can get on the market now. If only that phone were available in my country, I would buy it. Unfortunately, I went for S23, as this is the best that I could get on the market. With GCAM is quiet good, but with Samsung stock camera apps is not that great...

I can accept some falloff, and more importantly, a bit more lens protrusion for that.

S Yu, 22 Mar 2023Specs are generally impressive, but I can't help but w... moreF stop is an easy calculation - focal length / diameter of effective aperture, So to make it both faster and longer, the lens opening would have to be much bigger. Lets assume that you want to make it 20% longer, and at the same time, 20% brighter. That would be 0.8*current F stop = (1.2 * length) / diameter, so diameter = (1.2 * length) / (0.8 * current F stop). And that would gives us exactly 1.5, so 50% bigger diameter of the front lens. And that would force whole optics system to be longer as well. So, I think what we have here is a great tread off between better zoom and even bigger camera island.

Specs are generally impressive, but I can't help but wonder if the telephoto could've been a bit longer and faster. And, the processing may be questionable, "deep fusion" sounds interesting since it's the first instance since Apple used the phrase...albeit carrying a somewhat different meaning...

Also true about the magnification, it's a bit sad but they couldn't really have bigger one with a sensor this huge. At least it performs well in low light and in some test the zoom is good on photos, on videos tho the s23 beats it.
Btw apple only has a 3x zoom and people still buy it 🤡.

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2023Why does it have that extremely bulky and ugly goofy ahh ci... moreIt has small zoom probably because sensor itself is large, it's 1/1.56, compare that to Samsung S23U 1/3.52 periscope and yeah, there probably isn't room for more zoom.
Also, between massive zoom and smaller one, 3x is better as it's gonna be more versatile then 10x, there is a reason even Samsung with their 10x zoom lens also have smaller zoom one.
Also stabilization, I haven't seen any videos of it so too early to judge, you don't need ultra fancy gimple OIS to have stable video.

Why does it have that extremely bulky and ugly goofy ahh circle (occupying 40% of the back cover) if it only has a laugheable 2.8x optical zoom? Why is the video stabilization so bad despite boasting Hasselblad everywhere?
Why does it still have a ridiculous 1080/30 32mpx mid-range selfie camera? Dude these chinese brands make it so easy for Samsung and even Apple to have the best allrounder phones every year. Only Huawei was a real competitor.

Anonymous, 21 Mar 2023Upscale degrades more quality than smaller sensors. Not necessarily if Oppo could utilise the extra resolution information captured by the Quad Bayer array. I, too, prefer having a prime lens with a solid performance over a mediocre zoom lens if I were to choose one from the two.
Of course, it would be nice if I could have both, but a phone can't have too many camera components without substantially increasing its size, and the compromise has to be made somewhere.
