seducing customers. one successful example of this is Panasonic and Tesla. Tesla Could've gone to CATL or LG but Panasonic pushed it and see the potential of Tesla.
Let's say JDI (Japan Display Inc.) used all their might and have successfully develop high quality flagship panel with manufacturing set to be done maybe in India or Philippines. all they have to do now is to seduce Apple or maybe Nokia. Very huge risk but it has to be done to catch up with the competition. Where would they get there budget for the plant and r&d? thats why I said Japan has to step up their game it can be done with the backing of their rich government.
like what they did during their economic boom a lot of companies are being heavily backed by the government thats how Japan became a powerhouse it is today, they need to do it again.

ae86, 28 Mar 2023meanwhile Japan is lazy to develop their own panel for comp... moreMeh, I highly doubt that Sharp and that other Japanese display manufacturer (that I forgot the name of) can compete with the high amounts that Samsung and BOE can make at any given time. And don't forget, Japanese-made products are usually higher priced compared to their competition. And guess who will pay for the bottom line price increase of the increased BOM? Definitely not the phone vendor, that's for sure.
Will they be able to make high yields and price match it after increasing their production capacity? Maybe yes, because of economy of scale.
But which company will invest to make it so? Apple? But it only invests in manufacturers that can almost, if not already, make the parts that they need according to their standards. We're literally commenting in an article that's a great example of this. Samsung? Not a chance. Chinese brands like Xiaomi and the BBK sub-brands? Highly doubt it, they would rather go for their own country's homegrown tech most likely. Now which company is left that can realistically do the investing?

Expecting that USA starts to fully apply the prohibition to China by not allowing to BOE to enter to the display orders of any of their products, thus makes the iPhone no longer use chinese components and increases the quality even more.

Sony, Samsung and OmniVision have equivalent sensors (core specs like res & pixel size) just so OEMs can triple source. Only few sensors are exclusive (like Sony's 1", Samsung's 108MP/200MP or OV's 54MP, 60MP, 100MP sensors)

Apple does plenty of bad stuff don’t get me wrong, but hating them for relying more on other suppliers because BOE wasn’t up to standards doesn’t make any sense to me. Why would Apple want to launch a product with a higher risk of faulty screens and lose consumer trust?

RealLifePhones, 28 Mar 2023of course this is just a strategy to negotiate lower prices... moreThis is happening a lot lately with many phones. Lately the likes of Honor and Xiaomi (and probably others) are using screens from up to 3 different suppliers in many of their phones. Obviously, these screens whilst they offer similar technical specifications can't be all of the same quality. Reviewers of course always get sent the good ones but the screens they are reviewing may not reflect the ones ur average consumer ends up with. Some brands also do this for camera sensors on some phones. They use different suppliers for the camera sensors but it happens much less frequently for camera sensors

meanwhile Japan is lazy to develop their own panel for competion even though a potential customer is already at their doorstep and has the capacity to develop it.
Japanese defence industry is about to be restructured.
maybe they'll do it on the consumer manufacturing sector too.
