vivo to merge iQOO into its main business in order to cut costs

29 March 2023
The sub-brand iQOO will become even less independent.

That’s the end of IQOO. Just like Oppo who finished OnePlus by biting a chunk out of their budget and suppressing their sibling company just to rise.

Apart from the japanese meaning, sure that's a little weird, but it's not pronounced that way anyways. I'm happy with my iQOO 5 Pro (Origin OS) and my vivo X51 (FunTouch OS), I have many phones but these 2 are my favourite.

I also never said that I was cool about myself, and I don't think the brand name should be pronounced as iCool, if that's what you meant.

The brand name carries no meaning other than a word play on the pronunciation, which is identical to (i)"酷", the sinicized expression of "cool", so it's supposed to mean "I'm cool", yet claiming as such is anything but (if you claim that you're cool, in the sense that you're fashionable, you're probably pretty shabby. You're just not supposed to say that yourself). It's tacky as h*ll, and carries multiple negative associations, the most notable being iQ00, i.e. IQ=0, also including "iku", which I won't need to dive into considering its routine appearance in Japanese @dult videos. I hope they're not trying to sell it in the Japanese market.
And sorry to burst your bubble, but I carry a NEX3S as a daily driver. Can't say I'm really satisfied with the UI or the cameras but at least it's one of the few phones that still have a headphone jack not to mention a discrete DAC.

S Yu, 31 Mar 2023I'm surprised iQ00 lasted this long at all.You clearly haven't ever used a vivo or iQOO phone before, can't even write their name properly. Nor did you even read the article properly, iQOO isn't going anywhere, they will be a line of phones in vivo's portfolio.

I don't see any reason for vivo to separate iQOO, especially when they both share a lot of hardwares. It's the same story between Oppo-Realme and Xiaomi-Poco. Realme and Poco aren't completely independant. If I were Oppo and Xiaomi, I just use them as a flagship killer lineup.

DarlingYext, 30 Mar 2023These people don't know, they just assume. Only thing ... moreAlthough I'm currently a Samsung user, I'm still interested in many of the Chinese brands especially Oppo (since the debut of the Find X6 series), Vivo (since the X80 series) and OnePlus after it merges with Oppo (as I kind of like ColorOS more than Oxygen OS). Samsung's OneUI isn't bad, but Chinese brands are improving too, so I'm interested in it. All in all, I'd say Samsung isn't as dominant just as a few years ago, most notably in Asia as the Chinese brands usually have either the same level of market share or slightly less. Some even surpass Samsung in terms of market share.

                              You got anything else?

[deleted post]These phones aren't even sold in most countries, that's part of why they can't outsell Apple and Samsung.

But also can't you just let people enjoy whatever phone they do enjoy without getting extremely toxic? I would never buy a Samsung phone because I don't like their UI and their design language, but fanboys like you just make it sure that I don't ever want to be part of the "Samsung users".

I will be first to admit that yes, Chinese phones usually got worse support, but they still get usually 2 years of updates at least.
