There seems to be a significant software (processing) issue with the regular Photo Mode compared to the Pro Mode. The problem with the Photo Mode is that even after disabling Auto-HDR and Scene Optimizer, the processing makes the photos a lot noisier compared to Pro Mode (with every setting on Auto). The issue with the Pro Mode is that it doesn't work with Auto-HDR (which I would want for most scenarios).

I just received a camera update (Poland). I took a dozen 1x, 3x, 10x photos in the same scenes before and after the update. When it comes to the quality of the photos, absolutely no changes have taken place. The same details and noise level, colors, etc. Gcam still beats the stock application.

Shadocx, 01 Apr 2023Disable auto HDR.Disabling hdr results in very low dynamics of photos, just lika at the pro-mode. It also does not affect the oversharpening of photos. Enabling medium smoothing in the camera assistant results in a loss of detail. In Gcam you can get high level of detail without artifacts / halos etc. So the hardware allows, only Samsung's policy is like this. In a year they will improve the software and people will be told that they improved the hardware in S24 serie.

If you take picture of a document with S23 and S23+, some parts are blurry at the edge or even in the center...this update does not seem to fix that. Faulty lens ?

Blind pictures are totally different, samsung used to own when their pictures were sharper and more colorful. Many high mid-tire phone also won blind camera contest so it doesn't really matter.

This update has caused battery drain. I've rooted back too previous firnwa6which is much better than this .

hmm i was expecting fixes to improve the night mode cause they say that even A54 takes better photos at night. I read somewhere that a huge camera update is coming to finally fix the smeared night photos unlike A54 which takes crispier images at night. Perhaps this time they focused on speed.

You have to be a naive sucker to believe bloggers from YT. 99% of them take money for good reviews and it's hard to find serious criticism of any smartphone.
Samsung makes good cameras but with crappy software. Samsung has always taken plastic-fantastic candy look photos. I'm not a Samsung hater, I had the S7, S10e, S21 ultra and now I have the S23 Ultra. I consider all of the above. for very good phones. The S23 Ultra is also a very good photo-taking device, provided that you do not use the stock application. Well, unless someone likes plastic kitsch.
Just look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/working-gcam-for-s23-ultra.4550019/ and see examples how bad is stock application and how good can be.
After the purchase, I was so disappointed with the quality of the photos that I wanted to return it, but after installing GCAM, I changed my mind and I am happy to take photos and then watch them in a larger format.

Shadocx, 30 Mar 2023The only way I've found to take more natural pictures ... moreYes, medium smoothing helps a liitle bit with oversharpening but still remain problems with harsh processing of shadows and highlights. Sometimes good option is just use pro-mode but you lost dynamic range and many lights are blown and can't be recovered in postproduction with Lightroom etc. RAW doesn't give much more than JPG in this case.

Even the cheap phones having garbage camera somehow able to take decent photos when Gcam is used. Google algo is just that good and ahead than competitors. It works in most situations though, not all.
