DSCC: No ProMotion (120Hz) on vanilla iPhones until 2025

04 April 2023
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will switch away from the notch design in favor of the Dynamic Island, but under display FaceID is years out.

DaFink, 04 Apr 2023How is one rectangular slab less outdated than another? 🤔I'll never understand why are people whining about the same slightly changed design. Personally i don't mind iPhone 14 Pro and S23 designs, they're working and they're beautiful so why changing it if most people that actually buy these don't give a single s?
Now the durability, if you drop both phones on concrete they'll brake no matter what. Glass is glass, glass brakes. They're both in great shape and durable enough.

Apple really take the whole definition of "planning ahead" to another level.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2023Android is miles ahead. Remember that.stupid guys that say iPhone ips 60Hz is smoother and better than 120Hz amoled android... and don't know 90 percent of smartphone's screens are made by Samsung

Agreed...Android is much smoother in recent hears.....i just don’t know how apple gets away with low refresh rate screens in phones costing so much money...Most $400 phones have 120hz....

PepperPot, 05 Apr 2023I agree Apple's foldable will use current hardware vs.... moreI fully agree with you, in the here and now such expectations are simply not realistic. What I am trying to say is if Apple are holding off on the entering foldable market until such time when a far better standard of folding device can be produced (as i believe to be the case), then that is a move I am very much in favor of.

Now I know that by doing so they will catch flack on sites like this for being late to the party and even more flack for making it sound like they have reinvented the wheel when they do finally announce a foldable. That's all just noise and marketing spiel though, and It's Apple so of course they'll catch that flack no matter what they do.

My only concern is I will not be spending my own money on a folding iPhone unless the screen is crease free, and at least as durable as what we have now. If getting to that point takes another decade, then so be it.

DaFink, 04 Apr 20234 gens, 5 gens whatever, In my opinion there should not hav... moreI agree Apple's foldable will use current hardware vs. 1st gen foldable hardware, but I still think you have to be realistic. I'm no scientist, but there aren't many materials you can continuously bend that won't leave some sort of seam.

Apple may run into physics just like these other companies have. So, the crease will be better than Samsung's, but I doubt it will be crease-less. Teardrop foldables have taken a slight step backward in that area to make way for a slimmer device.

No samsung brand no buy. Many people (22% markershare) only buy phone with popular samsung brand.

Imo the more important thing is the use of LTPO panels to save power (by reducing the refresh rate to 1Hz). The high refresh rate is just a bonus. I mean seriously, the higher refresh rate itself doesn't really affect the actual functionality of the phone other than games.

It seems that everyone is curious about iPhone's innovations.

SShock, 04 Apr 2023It was several factors and most of it were Apple just being... moreNot saying there aren't aspects to the 14 series that I wouldn't have done differently. But would the A16 and a 90Hz display really have made any significant difference....really?

The price is the one major stumble I think Apple made when it comes to the 14 and 14 plus. They should have discontinued all remaining 12 and 13 series models and moved the 14's into those price brackets.

DaFink, 04 Apr 2023No disrespect but If I remember correctly you were planning... moreIt was several factors and most of it were Apple just being greedier than usual. Increasing price while using last year's chipset was the biggest turn off. Whole point of iPhones was no matter what version you bought you had top chipset. Now even that doesn't apply and at higher price. HRR might not be the main factor and I've even defended 60Hz for a while, but given that even most bottom of the barrel phones run at least 90Hz, even if only in fixed or half adaptive per app mode, it's just inexcusable for a phone that costs 4 digits in Euro currency to still have just 60Hz. It's just silly.

As for S23 Ultra, I was actually planning vanilla S23 and even that with condition that SD 8 Gen 2 was as good as rumors were claiming at the time. I never liked big phones, but in the meanwhile I grabbed Poco X4 GT just because why not and got used to big phone so I decided to just go big in the end. Price difference wasn't huge and I got 12GB RAM and 512GB storage for that.

blue, 04 Apr 2023Really ignoring? Then why Apple sells better than any other... moreMost of Apple sales are coming from Apple brand/royalty and very high sales in US you know blue/green bubble message stuff...

Also even by Apple standards, last years sales in the end were lower than usual due to poor sales from Iphone 14 and especially 14plus.

Lets also not forget that since last year, Apple removed the sim tray on the US market, meaning they are from now on Esim only.

As someone who really enjoyed the latest iphones due to the big batteries, 120hz screens in the pro models the last 2 gens, the Qualcomm 5G modems(no more intel)etc, i will vote with my wallet jumping back to android, until Apples gets their head together aka 120hz displays on non pro iphones.

And its not just me. We all saw how poor/low even for Apple standards were the iphone 14 and even worse 14Plus sales so far.
