Samsung reportedly working on optimizing the AMD GPU for the next Exynos flagship chipset

Tentatively named "Exynos 2500", the chip is expected to debut with the Galaxy S25 a couple of years from now.

Anonymous, 11 Apr 2023Exynos was never on top, samsung manufactured snapdragon fo... moreYou know nothing about soc history, Exynos were favorable for long time, during s3 era Exynos were Quad core while Qualcomm had dual core, they started 8 core big little designs, I remember people intentionaly import South Korean variant for Quadcore.

Qualcomm came back and SD 800 were efficient and better than Exynos Variant.

During 2015 Samsung came back again SD 810 flop massively, 2016 still Exynos were better than SD 820, and 2017 it's debate SD 835 were sollid but Exynos variant had some advantage.

And BTW SD 845 were made by Samsung too.

Right now, ther... moreThat Mesa also available with Amd Gpu, the problem with Samsung they went easy way, they didn't use Amd drivers and instead use Google Angle drivers. Angle project translate open Gl code to vulkan that's why you see disappointing results. If they are serious and port rdna2 drivers we may have really good soc.

      Mesa Turnip start by supporting Adreno 650 and 620 that's not coincidence because Android inspector tools were released first for devices with SD 865 and 765, so that reverse engineering was because of public release of Adreno drivers to developers.

      I know Freedreno support Adreno 2xx but the current one which is used everywhere is Turnip which support Adreno 6xx.

Right now, there are open source Turnip or Mesa drivers that were reverse engineered to work with Adreno, right? Now what do we have for Mali or AMD? Maybe the manufacturers should make drivers open source or release open source versions of them or Adreno would be the only one with open source drivers that exist right now. Unless there is some for Mali or AMD, heck, even PowerVR that I don't know about.

            Those arent open source, just propietary drivers some oems provide through play store. You could do that even before on bootloader unlocked phones.

            And no, mesa has nothing do with those playstore drivers, before turnip, mesa made freedreno for adreno, those are from adreno 2xx gpus, from years ago.

Until then every new feature from cameras to screen, software to hardware android were way ahead when snapdragon cpu/gpu was up against apple. Ironic Samsung...

I had to login through the browser to install it . There's no icon after the installation. Does the app require any configuration/interaction or we just have to install it ? Thanks

Even before that you could install these on your unlocked bootloader phone by taking them from the firmware of other devices. You can still do that.

                        From tools like this thats why you can get something like Mesa, Mesa started with Adreno 650 and midrange 619/620.

                          Hope they never put Exynos in flagship models again.

                            Many AAA games will be happy to work with on mobile to be a cross-platform. Will the Exynos did that in 2025?

                            Maybe its possible. With the next Exynos chipset, expecting to be better as the AMD promise, while the Exynos' CPU puts a 10-12 core config (instead of octa-core).

                            Which is very interesting, putting a 12-core CPU will manage multiple threads while playing games without sharing the same threads, and it's better when the games supports multiple threads as well to load faster and efficient with less unexpected stuttering. Its an opportunity to Exynos since it went down for now and expecting to bring back the top most flagship chipset from Samsung. Will the competition begins.

Bc I dont remember anyone e... moreExynos where beating or where on par with SD all the way to 2019, when gaps started to widen more on GPU side and efficiency against Exynos. It was not bad chips just GPU was better on SD side and it was slightly more efficient in a last 3 or 4 years, reason Samsung went AMD root, with enough time and optimizations Exynos GPU can be very competitive against not only SD but also Apple.

                                        when was Exynos a top dog? Bc I dont remember anyone ever mentioning it as that.

                                        It was fine as a midrange chip in ~2017, but that was it.
