Anonymous, 14 Apr 2023You seem to be far away from any form of logicHis point is that if it has a sufficiently sized battery, it will last longer (in theory) so it won't need to be charged as much.
Smaller battery generally means less usage time meaning faster charging is desirable so the user can to get back using it.
At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2023Statistics should exist to see that people want small phone... moreIf there's a significant market for 6.1" phones in the flagship segment that these two major brands keep making them, then I think it wouldn't be a ludicrous thing to say that there's also a market for phones that same size in the midrange where there are even more buyers.
I get that Samsung wouldn't want to do that because it will take away a chunk of sales from their small flagship. If the rumor about the iPhone SE next year being the same size as the iPhone 14 would turn out to be true and it gets a reasonable midrange price, maybe then Samsung would think about making a small phone in the midrange to compete with that.

Apple have a good option to show that people want small phones.
Iphone 14 is something 146mm tall while most of the 6.6 plus phones screens are something 20mm taller for a phone
If they compare the iphone 14/Pro vs 14 pro plus and 14 pro max and then compare how many units sold on these to compare how many people want smaller phones.
Samsung also have there standard S class as 146mm tall that is more compact so i would think there are a lot who buy standard S series a lot too and that also should show that there is a need for more compact phones in market for middle class and budget too.
In budget and middle class is hard to say that there is a need for more compact phones. Cause there are no brands who sell in a lot of markets too. Also when all budget to middle class are tablets basically so there is no other choice for people to buy large phones when there are only large phones.
Samsung A4x series started with more compact phone with something like 5.9 inch screen for A40 and then with A41 it got bigger as 6.1 inch screen but still stay under 150mm tall and then come with A42 and it went to like all the A series 6.6 inch screen and then there was no A43 and now 44 cause probably nobody was interested in that series when they got as large as every other A class series.

nice to hear that the new pixel will be reasonably sized. I hope they don't add curved display and small battery, though.

Both pixels are still a pain to use....why are you slowly decreasing the screen size every year. Just go under 6" already... give me something I can use it with ease.

They need to make the back of the phone flush. I have the pixel 7 pro and because the camera sticks out at the back it won't lie flat in the charging console in my car so doesn't charge. Will be moving away next phone if it's not

CargoJoe, 14 Apr 2023Real question is why is Google going smaller for their one ... moreAs far as the 'A' series goes, I find it to be redundant IMHO. The 'A' series phone is typically launched 2-3 months before the next gen Pixel phones, and that's why it doesn't make much sense.
For example, if we compare Pixel 6 and 6a, both use the same chipset and launched with the same Android verison (so similar end-of-life support); and 6a has downgrades in terms of build quality, Primary camera, RAM, display refresh rate, wireless charging and IP rating.
Something similar will be seen with 7a, which will have some downgrades compared to 7 (the downgrades might not be so drastic this time). Now it will be launched at $450 (assuming the same launch price as 6a). But when we look at the pricing of Pixel 7, it was launched at $600 and regularly goes on sale for $500.
So I would have preferred that in place of launching a 7a, google continues the pixel 7 for another year by discounting it further to $450 when the 8 series launches. Something like what Apple does with its vanilla model. So for the Oct 2023-Sep 2024 period, the Pixel lineup will look like Pixel 8 pro ($900), Pixel 8 ($600) and Pixel 7 ($450).
Of course that is not happening this year, as Pixel 7a is surely coming. But it is possible that Google might be thinking on the above line for next year and later, and 7a might be the last 'A' series phone. In other words, pixel 8 could continue alongside Pixel 9 series as a substitute for an 'A' series phone.

I am presently using Pixel 6a (6.14") and IMO anything substantially larger or substantially smaller would be a hindrance one way or another.
Pixel 8 will have smaller bezels than Pixel 6a, and therefore should have a slightly smaller footprint, which again would be very welcome.
