But seems like it has changed throughout the years. Im assuming that small margin doesn’t sustain them well, so now they are simply recycling old phones with subpar spec at higher prices. Inflation didn’t help either. The days of bombastic spec at value price has ended.

If they make x amount of dollars a quarter, they try to make more than that in the same quarter of the following year. They don't just see whether they are making profits, they also see if they are getting 'growth ' in profits. Because of this too, they are increasing prices, cutting features etc. Which is affecting their sales.
Add to this, indian market and almost all markets becoming saturated almost. And high cost of living increases in the past year.

No one has mentioned the fact that the cost of living has increased over the past 6 months or so, and that the cost of things we need to live (fuel, food, clothes etc) have risen quite considerably, which leaves a lot people with much less money to spend on luxury items. Of which, phones (especially the premium variety) generally fit into that category.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2023But features do get cheaper with time, so you should get mo... moreIn an ideal world, with advancement in tech, prices should go down but at present, inflation has resulted in a substantial increase in the cost of components.
Rise in cost of components added with increased R&D costs, marketing and other overheads will always result in increase in sale price.
Inflation is probably the biggest factor here.
The only way to reduce costs is either by providing cheap components or by achieving economies of scale.

If brands are removing features then people will stick to their older, better phones for longer.
