Is the Xperia 5 V ready for launch earlier than its predecessor?

Sony should stop pricing themselves out of the market

I think it's because Sony has officially stop selling them in India. It's the same here in Indonesia as well, Sony Indonesia has officially stopped selling Xperia phones after their last one, the Z5 Premium. So without official retailer marketing them, they are lagging behind Samsung and iPhones, and any other Chinese phones who are cheaper. The only way to get Xperia phones here in Indonesia, or even in Australia as well is through private importers stores, which in turn have their own separate customs laws and jack up the price even more. Xperia 1 V in Indonesia is being sold via private sellers at 1,800 USD equivalent. Their MSRP is supposed to be only 1,400 USD. The extra 400 USD just comes from the customs and tax duties only.

I was born in the 80's and I grew up with all of the things that you mentioned Sony did. It is good that Sony doesn't follow the sheep herd but for me the same outdated deisgn, only 2 years of major updates and the 21:9 screen are the biggest deal breakers. That's why I keep skipping Sony phones. Reminds me of Apple with their 10 years old design. If the screen would have been normal, then yes, maybe I would go for a Sony phone despite the other thins I've mentioned. But never again in this life 21:9 screens. I've used them and I hate them very much.

Livius, 04 May 2023The S21 Ultra charges at 25W, it doesn't support 45W. ... moreThis would be a good time to acknowledge Sony's innovations, since you responded to other comments.
Btw, if you go beyond just smartphones, then Sony has done a whole lot more. The original walkman, PlayStation, psp, water resistant smartphones etc.
Steve Jobs wanted to put mac os inside sony hardware, though that never happened...
Modern pcs without avx512 still struggle to emulate ps3.
PSP was way ahead of it's time.
And Sony keeping the headphone jack and micro SD rather than following the footsteps of the likes of Samsung is a good thing.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2023" super limited" Japan, China, Taiwan, Malays... moreYep. Super limited. I am from Africa (Kenya to be precise) and often post positive sentiments about Sony devices (I've owned a few Xperias). I may say I have been an arduous, overzealous defender in some instances. I still believe they make some of the greatest devices but from this list, you can see that they don't consider Africa as part of their clientele. In other words, they don't make phones for Africa. Says something fundamental about the company.

IQ200, 01 May 2023Ah, I see, you're having a Galaxy S21 Ultra which can ... moreThe S21 Ultra charges at 25W, it doesn't support 45W. There is difference between 25 and 45, I just saw a YouTube video today. As for the Chinese brands, yes, I've always found it strange that they have over 120W and Samsung doesn't. I don't if it degrades the battery or not but the battery on my P40 Pro still holds up very well after almost 3 years of usage and it was charged at 40W. I think that Samsung doesn't do it not because they can't but because they are the Apple of Android. I'll skip the 23 Ultra and hope that 24 Ultra will come with 67W. Due to the nature of my job, I really need a fast charging phone.

                      Cheers !

Livius, 25 Apr 202333W charging speeds ? This is hilarious for 2023. I think t... moreAh, I see, you're having a Galaxy S21 Ultra which can be charged with 45W adapter, so naturally 33W will look slow to that. Well, it is not slower for sure, in fact the charging results could be a little faster then the Samsung's 45W. Why? I guess you missed the testings between 25W and 45W charger on the same Galaxy Ultra phone and the difference is in just 6 minutes faster for the 45W. Go google or youtube for your self. Samsung's 45W is not really as good as they claim and results are more in line with other phones with ~30W. Yeah, I would also want a faster charger who wouldn't? Btw did you noticed how ultra fast chargers are only on chinese phone brands? Strange for such a big hardware company don't you think? So let me ask you a few questions. Do you believe that Samsung can't make a faster charging standard for their phones or they just choose not to have higher speeds because of the higher impact on the battery longevity which is still uknown? The latter would make sense as Samsung has the longest software support among Androids suggesting we can have our phones for longer and not automatically change it after 2 years. But the state of the battery charged at let's say 200W and ~30W after a year, two or more years of constant usage, that part I don't know. Noone knows for sure. We only have what certain companies advertised to us, but that's not sceintific proof and some people (and companies) need a proof.

                          Cheers!
