Lol. Sony has put me up on a tree one two many times then cut the tree down. Every year Sony disappoints me. Sony is only for a specific crowd, they are not even trying to widen their smartphone sales. Last year's IV model is presently usd$1400. 2023 models; xiaomi 13 ultra(usd$880 in china), oppo find x6 pro(usd$900 in china), Vivo X90 Pro+ (usd$1130)..... How does Sony prices even make sense when you have 'higher end' flagships that cost way way less?

boring camera setups and definitely the same super high price tag.
don't know what Sony was thinking, wondering do they even have a marketing team for phone department？

I'm sure it will have:
Fastest processor, except on warm days.
4K video recording on very cold days.
4K display, sometimes, until an update removes it.
12 to 16 GB RAM with the low memory killer still set for 4GB.
5G, but not on any carrier.
No bootloader unlock.
Same old camera with bad lens flare and clunky app.
Side-mounted fingerprint reader that fails in 12 to 18 months.
On-screen notifications that appear after the screen has finished flashing on and off.
Intermittent audio notifications.
Battery draining random screen wakeups.
Has a microSD card but only the broken stock Android FUSE mount. Phone reboots if you create or delete a large file.
Security patches every 35 to 75 days, with updates no newer than one month behind.
Hundreds of software bugs where Sony tech support will pretend like you're the only person on Earth with the problem.

Shame it doesn't reflect on sony sales..
And most people still debating about 4k panel.. lol
Its a niche thing to have but it doesn't really feel any different from QHD panel.

Same way samsung has done many stuff just because iphone had, not because it was necessary.
If iphone still had earphone jack, galaxy S would have.
If iphone had charger in the box, galaxy S would have.
If ipads were all 16:9 since first gen, older tab S would never be 4:3.
If iphone had jack on top, samsung would never move to bottom.
If Apple de ides to say now ppl need to pay to receive new versions of iOS, be sure samsung will be charging too.

Money earned is enough.
By the way, revenue of current fiscal year (april/22 - march/23) until december/22 was bit higher than previous.
Even if amount of phones sold decreases, sony just need to increase $100/€100 every year and ppl will still buy.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2023Vivo had QHD few months before G3. Point. I'm willing to bet it's an LG panel though. If Samsung had the tech ready at the time, they probably would've fast tracked a phone with it. On preliminary investigation I can't seem to deduce who made the screen in the Xplay 3s.

Yeh, as others have commented; Sony does make great unique phones! Design is great! But price is too high! Even a small decrease in Price will help give Sony more market share.

Everytime they posted... moreI've been reading through DPReview for years as well, and while there are people who still dislike smartphone cameras for "overprocessing details" in general, recently I've been seeing more and more people praising it for its absolute convenience and ability to produce great-looking photos with a click of a button - something modern mirrorless cameras (aside from some with micro 4/3 sensors from OM Systems and Panasonic) still lack till this date. On that website there is literally a dedicated user forum for mobile phone photography too, and most of the photos I've seen there are pretty spectacular, with plenty of detail for a 12MP sensor and there have been some 50MP photos that do look very nice as well.

Nowadays, cameras with type 1 sensors are typically compact zoom cameras, and they tend to have a pretty crappy lens quality towards wider aperture settings, showing a lot of corner softness and fringing. They are better in terms of centre resolution during the day but that's because they have a 20MP sensor instead of 12MP - in low light this resolution advantage seems to diminish rather rapidly.
If Sony is adopting a 48MP sensor with Xperia 1 V, that's great - it's long overdue and they should've made a switch at least a year ago, but better late than never. Let's see how well a 2-Layer CMOS is going to perform because I'm curious too.
