The tech is still far from going into production, though.

Wojtek , 30 Apr 2023I would love a comeback of polymer displays and covers - yo... moreExcept it will have very llimited lifespan and will malfunction on its own, without dropping it.

you have to suffer, 30 Apr 2023thats something like the galaxy s7 keyboard accesory does.Indeed it offers the functionality, and though it technically works, it does add the inconvenience of a much bulkier phone. I actually bought this keyboard first, and then a S8 for it(!), back in 2018. Made a small review of the pros and cons I experienced: https://eskerahn.dk/?p=2395/

Unfortunately though the S9 was prepared for it, they never released a matching keyboard from S9 and forwards.

Anders, 29 Apr 2023Absolutely this. People don't miss physical keypads. I... moreThis is just wrong....

The right statement would be that for the vast majority of users (beyond 99.9%) the lost screen estate/wasted area and extra weight outweighs the benefits of a real keyboard over a fake one.

And that is why keyboard phones today is an extremely small niche market from small producers. (FxTec, Planet Computers, UniHertz)

I would claim that VERY few people are able to reliably use a fake/touch keyboard without looking at the screen while doing so. Making it hard to type even the simplest message while you're walking in a city. To remedy this, they are currently offering speech-to-text as a workaround, though this tech is very far from being trustworthy especially outside the major languages.

So the NEED for alternatives to fake keyboards is there, whether this particular tech is the start of a viable answer is another question,

Digdigfig, 29 Apr 2023The more resistant a material is to scratching, the easier ... moreI think what you tried to say was that the more scratch proof a material is, the more brittle it is.
But though that unfortunately goes for the materials we know/use, I do not see that this HAS to be so for any material. not even transparent ones,

Maybe some layered stuff, where each molecule layer is a very strongly bound 2D-grid (similar to what we know for Graphene), but though the grid is hard to break, yet compressible/stretchable.
Obviously just guessing, but don't think that it has to be impossible.

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2023That's simply physics. If you drop glass, it will like... moreAnd who said that it MUST be made of glass? Duh.

It would be helpful for the blind people with braille.

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2023No glass display, no buy 😉I would love a comeback of polymer displays and covers - you already have to slap a protector either way but with polymer even if you drop it it won't shutter at all. and it's lighter and nut that cold to touch when it's cold outside....

Anonymous, 30 Apr 2023More disposable crap. More people who hate tech 😞

Mollisol, 30 Apr 2023The future is great this is great innovation Yes it will very cool. Perhaps it will applied to 2030 nokia 3310 6G

I wonder if the screen cracks

Funny how people complain things like this are useless when it's exactly things like this that makes technology progress 🙂 the point is research & development gives us new ideas on how to make new things & improve current things. You guys simply lack imagination, that's why you're not on R&D.

Anonymous, 29 Apr 2023I think you're not really understanding the sentence: ... moreexactly that too they aren't really taking into account everything, not to mention the fact blackberry/keyboard devices failed is because u lose screen and other aspects by having a keyboard, with this being able to have both a keyboard while still a sleek full screen design everyone would want this feature in a heart beat, as long as they can build it where the screen wouldn't deteriorate any faster than normal
