I, for one, haven't seen lcd phone displays to be brighter than oled ones. Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think lcds have variable refresh rate (1-120 or anything like that besides the 60/90/120) like the newer oleds (I may be wrong about this)

Oled uses less energy than LCD only for blacks.
Twice for whites and same amount for all other.

The 6.1 has more bezels than... moreAs there are no compact phone in the market other then Iphone and standard Samsung S class and they are not even called compact while these are on more compact size as they are 6.1 inch screens. Even this 6a and 7a are both 6.1 inch screen size and at around 152mm tall is still a lot better then all the standard phones that are all over 160mm tall.
Zenfone is also more compact but it also cost same as these iphones and s class on samsung.
´And then are the flip phones that are compact when folded. Thats about it for compact phones as there are none in middle and budget class. Actually you maybe find some chinese brands that are compact or some mini phones from aliexpress that cost like 100 euro and are with hardware like helio A22 or something like that

I read somewhere that they are going to axe the pixel a series and 7a will be the last one in the series. Since now it is getting very close to vanilla 7 with these upgrades, it makes sense.

$500 for all the upgrades does excite me, but you can get the 7 for a similar price. If you're lucky, you can get the 7 Pro. It's not an easy decision to make.
