It's still likely going to sell for $699.

Are US prices subsidised or what?

I am definitely interested in buying this over any other handheld devices.

Well, definitely not a bad price, but I reckon it's still going to struggle at least a bit with competing with the Steam Deck because:
              1) It's more expensive, obviously. Although the Ally is only $50 more than the highest-end Steam Deck, the reason why the Deck's been so successful is because of the cheaper $399 option.
              2) It likely won't have a userbase as massive. See above.
              3) Support from Asus probably won't be as massive as Valve's if they simply go for the Windows route. Valve's support has been brilliant over the past 2 years with SteamOS. Asus and Windows 11 probably won't go as well.

If they manage to get the standard Z1 version's price down quite a bit, then the first and second issues might not be as bad in the long run.

Before anything else for 700 a decent gaming laptop can be bought.
Or Playstation and any other consoles which requires TV which all of you already have.

Before someone starts about the price difference.

US prices exclude taxes, Euro prices always include them.
