Simply wait for the iPhone 16 Pro to get the same camera for less. It’s Apple’s MO, release a new fancy camera only for their most expensive model to capture the fomo people, then put it in the cheaper models the next year.

The ... moreClients buying products making it reach mass production does develop it
Economic basics 101
How many battery and beta technology exists out there that doesn't see the light of day because they are not funded or get a market to grow and reach actually production?
Add to that the competition that arises between clients pushes demand and speeds up innovation
Don't underestimate/undervalue Huawei as "JUST" being a client

I hate when apple gets late in the game when it comes to things like this and refresh rates or whatever but you know why i hope this is true? Because now cheap Chinese brands will hopefully stop using the stupid 2mp macro and bring more periscope cameras in midranges and flagship killers

With the alleged 20% price hike, we gotta stop and ask ourselves, is this really an upgrade?

IpsDisplay, 09 May 2023With Huawei out of the picture periscope lenses have barely... moreHuawei is just a client. Did not develop anything.
The supplier does not have anything beyond 240mm to sell.
Also, to increase range, sensor size would decrease even more.
Huawei was already using lame 1/4", which means that it would become 1/5" or 1/7" if lens was 300, 350, 400mm.

Still imx803 for 24mm. Since new dual layer is much harder to make and no way sony se icon would be able to make that much now (also exclusivity for xperia for months), no 903.

No 4-9x from LG Innotek.
No imx903.
A17 is slightly better than A16.
Still, expect price to be $100/€100 more.

Right now they want to sell it as it is an innovation, the perocopic sensor being in phones since 2019 at a commercial level!! Every time it is more noticeable that what happened with Huawei and the veto was nothing more than one of the many Yankee plots that they always do when they feel threatened by something

6x is better than 3x on the 13/14 Pro Max, it is a great advancement, but Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra not only has 2 telephotos, but one that has 10x optical zoom and the phone's price will be much lower than iPhone 15 Pro Max by the time autumn comes. By the way, it is rumored that Sony Xperia 1 V will have VARIABLE 4x-9x telephoto. Sorry, Apple, but your advancements are not enough and are coming too late.
