someone please explain this sudden rise in popularity of smartwatch

I’m content with my cheap Chinese fitness band, lol. It gives me all the information I need at a glance.

I say this as an American.
Although a good number of them do actually use them for fitness, otherwise they don’t wear any watch at all. Still, a majority in the US don’t use the Apple Watch for actual fitness.
Also iPhones are basically pointless outside of America imo.

After using it for a month I can't understand who in the right mind spends 300-400$ on a smart watch.
If you have lose change and have nothing else to spend on, then fine.
None of the health features work in India.
It's just a glorified fitness band.
                        🤦

Idk if it's just me, but I've never really been all that interested in wearable tech when I have my phone in my pocket practically all the time. I can understand the use of it, especially for women since they often don't have pockets. But for me, it just seems like an unnecessary expense
