TheLastOracle, 15 May 2023The asking must be unreasonable. Otherwise I am guessing OP... moreDoes not matter how much nokia is asking.
    Nokia has something oppo needs.
Oppo can pay, delevop own tech or stop using.

Some brands have been stable like asus, sony, motorola. Other like samsung has faced little decline compared to previous years. Apple has grown while chinese OEMs are falling. Even in China they are facing 8, 10, 15% lower number of devices sold yoy.
Now they are doing all they can to save money.

Anonymous, 15 May 2023horrible jealousy .. they want to wipe all chinese brands..Oh the horrors chinese brands need to endure from the likes of this big bad West. I mean they are all saints and did no wrong. They just stay there and make money out of tech they received for free and out of curtency from western innovators and developers (that invested billions in research).... But now the big bad West, is jealous because this brands sell to much.

Anonymous, 15 May 2023Oppo does not want to pay what nokia wants to use nokia... moreI'd rather say that that's an excuse for them to hide the truth that their market in europe got so small is probably insignificant.
At the end, they still need to pay nokia no matter where they sell their devices because they use nokia tech. The only country that does not care about intelligence property, is china, well might be some other too, but most probably nokia will stand no chance to fight them there, nobody does. Contrafit products and stollen tech are on their streets at every corner like fastfood restaurants in the west.

First because people in europe are paied with actuall money and have rights, nobody works 24 Hours a day. This plus taxes cost way more money then owning a company in china all together.

But they just milked the cow as much as they could then said by by. They will very probably get out of europe and of business, sooner then expected, this looks like a typical: i apply for bankruptcy, my pocket is tough full, pack and outta here, next brand DUOPPO, clean and without debts. But who knows? Maybe they are better then this, even tough i doubt it.

Anonymous, 15 May 2023Blame oppo. Oppo just needs to pay nokia. Simple. The asking must be unreasonable. Otherwise I am guessing OPPO would pay. It's a pretty large brand

Anonymous, 15 May 2023Just because carriers offer the contracts with 1€ phones an... moreHere it's the complete opposite. In effect, those are monthly installments to pay the "1€/free" phone. Therefore, only those who want a phone they cannot afford make such contracts. Prices are changing all the time, with new carriers entering the market and competing in price. Paying upfront for the smartphone and having the choice to change plan/carrier at any time is usually the smarter choice, most average citizens that are not living beyond their means realize that. Furthermore, those who travel frequently to non-eurozone countries (e.g., Switzerland) usually require a carrier unlocked phone to have local SIM.

Because of this, Europe is one of the best markets for carrier unlocked phones. Anyone leaving such a competitive market does so because they cannot face such fierce competition, unlike other places where state or carries put the finger on the scales to tip the balance.
