Kyocera consumer phones is poorly designed. The one prolific is their "senior" phone which mostly just focused on making a smartphone dumber. Not only was it difficult to navigate, it made younger people trying to help them really difficult (coming from experience). They have no market uniqueness so it's not surprising their consumer division is closing shop like Blackberry

For example xiaomi rarely had enough money during early days. Some government sponsored ip theft and some smart domestic marketing helped them gain market share. Later they developed some own projects but it all started with data from other countries.

With no phones launched in my home city, I only heard some of their phones by someone I know who loves Japanese phones. Had thought several times about trying one but haven't found any model I like everytime. Sad that their consumer business ends even before I can start with one

Also I don't know anyone whose used a Kyocera phone either. I feel companies have to make constant efforts to innovate, improve supply chain and after sales. Kyocera obviously didn't make much of the first movers advantage.

kek, 16 May 2023Most of the time, it's not the companies (eg Sony, LG,... moreWhat you described is called consumer trend. This trend of more buyers choosing low-end and midrange phones not only benefit the Chinese but also others like Samsung. Just look at what models are Samsung’s bestsellers. Even Apple acknowledge this trend by coming out with SE and Mini models. Blame the game instead of the players.

Well honestly this was a real brand.
Kyocera Echo was first and only foldable phone with propper durability.
Current flips and folds are tottal garbage because even a tiny scratch by nail can permanently damage main screen.
Those 1000-3000 euros foldables have zero durability.
Phones like that are tottaly useless and comparred to Kyocera echo you cant use tempered glass screen protector or something.

Adegbenro, 16 May 2023Even in Japan Apple is the most popular phone brand. Yeah about that, Apple was pushed into the japanese market HARD a while ago so of course it's really popular, not to mention hat they're sold quite a lot cheaper too.

Kyocera is known to me, they were making phones and sold them world wide 20 years ago. But they got quiet, especially in the last decade. The demise is not surprising as there was literally no coverage of their devices. They could be great, but we just won't know.

If memory serves me well, their phones were really well made.

No one knew about them simply because they were never featured here... they continued to produce stylish, rugged phones in Japan.

What a joke never heard about it.

They've been making phone since 1989? So they've been making such outdated phones, and limiting their reach, thay tiehr most people haven't heard of them, or their phone aren't known as being great in any segment. It's solely the blame of the management. They lack a vision.
