kek, 16 May 2023Most of the time, it's not the companies (eg Sony, LG,... moreThats good for consumers though. Not everyone needs a flagship. Before the Chinese manufacturers, the mid range and budget market was almost not-existent. Phones did exist in these price brackets but they weren't worth buying. Competition is a necessity for the advancement of technology.

Anonymous, 16 May 2023A lot of companies struggling with what we call resistance ... moreThis is spot on. Japanese are known to be extremely stubborn on certain things and looks like handsets is one of them. That's why you have such a twisted handset market in Japan where they have all the technologies they want to build the best smartphones in the world and yet, they are releasing phones like Balmuda Phone and other numerous non-smart flip phones.

Anonymous, 16 May 2023A lot of companies struggling with what we call resistance ... moreMost of the time, it's not the companies (eg Sony, LG, Sharp) but consumers that prefer buying stuff for cheaper or taking advantages of "deals" like those carrier ones.
All Chinese companies have won marketshare due to their "dump as cheap as possible" strategy to flood the market. Before 2015, you didnt even see that much smartphones being released weekly.

They should get bought out by some company. Either that or take down the entire operation. There is some hope left for businesses stuff but not for consumers

I used to find sellers in my country selling very cheap ex-japan carrier kyocera phones. I remember there were some varieties, like washable phone, rugged phone, and stylish business phone (I believe it was kyocera urbano). It was a good time.

A lot of companies struggling with what we call resistance to change, they don't follow technological trends and stay relevant in the space, that's what happend to most of these old companies, and bad management of course.
