You want to have cheaper and better performing phones? Pray Samsung foundries succeed.

        MRSTEK, 16 May 2023You are mixing Samsung's semiconductor department and ... moreYes i realise samsung is a conglomerate that has different divisions, i realise they have their own fab plant and produce chips for a multitude of different markets for example ram, storage, screen, and phones/computer.

        I realise most phones use samsung screens, most ram manufactures use samsung made memory chips, i understand most storage devices use samsung made chips, i understand companies use samsung fabrication for their products (gpu, cpu, SoCs). They are one of the most used companies for all those markets and product types and they also are leaders in other product types which is why i said my statement, they are the dominant force in most areas of business and consumer markets now.

        (they also make radar communication devices for even the british royal navy so yes, i do understand what they do and who they are 🙂)

          MRSTEK, 16 May 2023How you "STOP" TSMC from selling fab to Apple? ... moreOh i get you cant its money at the end of the day but it would be better if tsmc had restrictions themselves to allocate portions of the fab equally instead of a kind of "1st come 1st serve mentality".

          If they have already given the majority to apple already it means we possibly could be seeing even greater pricing on mobile products because of increased pricing for whatever fab is left to use, if there is less chips being made yet the same amount of products being made then that equals a price increase.

            We're seeing how free markets are a bad thing over time, unless they are regulated.

Again samsung just dominate a lot of other markets like tsmc do for chip fabrication and apple and samsung do in the mobile markets.

                      Most people (talking what, 98% of consumers) dont know mobile phones use samsung ram, screens etc.

Tsmc also supply to every aspect of tech used so in cars, hospital equipment, arm based servers etc, i think about 95% of pretty much everything tech related use tsmc fab.

                        Tsmc have a chokehold on the industry and maybe this is a wake up call with how much power they actually hold.

                          MRSTEK, 16 May 2023As a consumer, the most reasonable and practical thing to h... moreThey're already the top selling brand on android so no thank you, maybe 10 years ago when they were a respectable company but im done with seeing samsung everywhere (they already have a chokehold on a lot of other markets like tv/screens, ssd, multiple household appliances, android tablet market just to name a few). You basically want samsung to be apple from your statement. Also samsung fab is used in current Nvidia GPUs so they really don't need help.

                          Huawei made better kirin chips at the time, we needed them to stay competitive and oh look, merica stopped that. Its been an apple/samsung monopoly for way too long now. Also pixel and tensor SoC, no thank you.

                          We need TSMC to stop selling all their fab to apple and allow fair and competitive use of their tech.

                                  Surely Apple must have spoken to Qualcomm and Mediatek and were informed the competitors aren't ready with their 3nm designs before hoarding TSMC's capacity? These are some fair business practices, right? Right...?

                                    They are good hiding the throttling problems of their chipsets.

                                      Hopefully in future IBM, intel etc. might be able to replicate success like tsmc, which will benefit consumers.

                                        And if you are taking about Apple then their memory suppliers include Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix.
