If they want the best deal, they have to pick 5 inch 1080p.
There simply is no smaller alternative.

Manufacturers don't get it. They need to make solid mid-size phones. And if they do, they'll have a whole other market: women, younger people, those who want a compact device, etc.
Unfortunately, today, if you want a great device, you have to buy a bigger device. How off-putting.
All because manufacturers want to preserve the margins that come with larger phones. It's a bone-headed choice. They are ignoring whole markets to chase margins.

Main reason android phones get bigger is because they could not compete with iphone at the same size.
Android need better hardware to compete on par with iphone.
So if you have a 4.0 android phone, it will be below iphone performance and even specs, and much much more expensive. They simply couldn't sell.

Peter, 16 Apr 2013Even something like my HTC One S would be good. The Xperia ZL is with a 5" screen almost just as big (or little) as the One S (with a 4,3" screen). The One S is a big phone for one with a 4,3" screen. Based on the bezel of the XZL Sony should be able to produce a 4,3" phone no bigger than 116mm x 61mm.
Too bad that the only one who comes up with a high-end device these days is Xiaomi with their M2S. Sony has a Xperia SX (3,7")... but only in Japan (NTT Docomo).

2. ....Not even the best performing companies out there can afford to ignore requests singed by thousands of people.
........who do they listen to thousands or millions?
i firmly believe that companies will be able to make a perfect mobile phone with affordable price,great specs,and compact but that will eat up their own profits.

You're in reality asking for 2011-2012 flagships with up to date proc-ram-camera.
because 720P 4.1"-4.3", best processor (at the time), best ram (at the time) and best camera (at the time) are:
Sony XPeria S (4.3 MSM8960 12MP 1GB), Acer CloudMobile (4.3 MSM8960 8MP 1GB), Huawei Ascend DQuad (4.5 K3V2 Quad 1.5 8MP 1GB)
That's now mainstream.
If you don't have FHD screen you don't need more processing powerthan what those phones offer. Actually, if you want to bring it at a pricepoint where it's as expensive as the current top notch, you better look at something to do about the battery, wireless charger, materials, paints, accessories, colors, etc. But not at putting more power in it.

Smartphones are getting updated with higher end hardwares.. well thats a must. but why they are getting bigger and bigger!? not only because they require better and bigger displays but also they are getting more and more power-hungry. its not only better and bigger screens which makes the manufacturers to increase the size of their smartphones but also the need for bigger and bigger batteries. The hardware requirements which you mentioned cant get into a phone with that size or you would not have a satisfying daily battery endurance. Just take a look at the smartphones battery capacities since 5 years ago till now and how its getting bigger and bigger. I mean for a high end power hungry phone with decent hardware specifications, bigger means better battery life which is already an issue even for the big sized phones out there already let alone mid-sizers...

Absolutely welcome your initiative. It always bothered me whenever i had to handle phones larger than 4.2". Its a great initiative. I would prefer a screen within 4.2 or 4.3 max, with a powerful battery , good camera optics,memory card support and FM radio(Must have). WONDER why major players shy away from offering one, which if they do will be a runaway success.

Android phone with jelly bean os, 3.5 inch display, sleek model with sqaure edges(like i phone) keys to make and cut calls with ease(like in nokia), 5 mp camera with led flash, front camera, good battery with 14hrs talk time, processor of above 1 ghz and should not hang while making calls, gps, fast internet browsing, with price range of rs.12000 will be the good one for indian market. priority preference may be given for making and receiving calls with ease and without lag on calls. No preference for gaming (Sorry lot of phones are there for gaming).
