You are the minority...flagship specs on a small phone would not sell.

Finally, a major initiative by a major online tech site/blog 2 stop this mad march of ever bigger screen sizes 4 Android phones! I've been very vocal about this issue all over the internet and I'm glad at least there r many others who share d same concerns as most of the Android manufacturers seem 2 be paying little or absolutely no regard 2 comfort n convenience of the users n d sizes of these devices has already surpassed all such limits and yet the trend of ever bigger devices continues with Samsung's latest monsters 6.3'' and 5.8'' Galaxy Mega with pretty avg. specs! While there r a relative minority of people who seem 2 be preferring ever larger phones, a consensus I believe has already been reached that the sizes of these devices is gettng 2 large 4 comfort and defeats the very purpose of cell phones in d 1st place - their mobility! Hope the manufacturers pay heed 2 this petition and realize that it's hi time 2 focus on other aspects of a smartphone (better batteries n software optimization r some prime examples which still leave a LOT 2 be desired) rather than just going on infinitely increasing the sizes of the screens n the devices!

I agree with this from bottom of my heart. After using iPhone 5 of my friend for some days, I wish there were an android phone with same display size & pixel density, same powerful processing capacity as iPhone 5. But all the pioneer companies launching their flagship android phones with bigger display which are uncomfortable for rough/regular use.

If you have to wobble the about your hand to reach the top corners (like YOU most certainly do) that phone is not fit to be lebelled a "one-handed usable phone". To an extent, I can use the iPad (and not the mini) one handed too

The 5 inch display of Sony Xperia Z is just perfect. I don't know why don't you like big screens and wow, 3.5 inch? That's really small... iPhone 4 has a 3.5 inch display which is a fail for me... 4.3 is perfect...

This seems pointless. I doubt manufacturers are not checking the ROI on mid sized phones. I suspect they believe the profits will be poor plus direct competition with an iPhone but being forced to have a lower cost will make things difficult.

I have a galaxy Note which I operate one handed and can fit in every pocket... Not sure what is wrong with the 4.5-5 displays, they allow for larger batteries which really help the suspended battery life over smaller displays.

When I got my first touch screen phone I was worried that at 3.8 it would be too big, but I quickly moved from that to 4 and then 5.3 realising that it is not a problem and the benefits are often great, more space for batteries, lensest, sensors etc

When I try to select text on an iPhone 5 it reminds me how annoying a small display is.

I would prefer a petition to not release any new phones until you make proper break throughs... Eg folding displays, colour e-ink, a camera which is actually noticeably superior to those released a couple of years ago.

a 5.3 inch 1280 x 1960 will be a good resolution and a 350+ppi with dual core 2ghz 1.5gb of ram. a camera of 8mp. good quality as htc. that would be the best

I dont understand the issues with larger screens, my S3 fits in my pockets no problem. The reason for bigger screens is mainly due to the internet, you can surf better on a larger screen, also gaming, larger screen are so much better to play games etc.. there are many more positives to have bigger screens, and samsung is doing it right, the S4 is moreless the same size phone as the S3 with a larger screen, now you can go wrong there ay. Just hope the build quality is better, bring on the drop tests.

i am very much thankful to samsung for going out of the way and introducing galaxy note, when i had an s2 i always used to joke to my friends (who thought that i had a big phone ) with a statement - " i would have bought a bigger one if it was available' . and guess what! i really did that and got my self a note. i will never go back to a smaller screen. little bigger would be fine though

Well you are definitely on the right track, but 4.2" is ALSO over-sized.
I want a top-notch phone that can be held and used with ONE hand, this is not really possible above 3.8" to reach the far corner for me, and I do not have particularly small or immobile hands...
Young people with good eyes can see details down to 1/6000 of the viewing distance so a 1920x1080 display in 3.8" would be good beyond a 10" viewing distance for them.
Old guys with poor eye sight like my self (and perhaps the author?) would not really benefit from beyond 1280x720 on a 3.8".

Personally I prefer QWERTY phones, and the least bad option currently is the old "Sony Ericsson Pro"

sony xperia p is the only premium device at a medium size. it has a very beutiful alluminium body!

I hope that sony would make an updated version of it, with newer hardware (but with a similar body).

and I hope that sony would a least bring android 5 to the xperia p - and by that, sony would extend its shelf life considerably!

AnonD-5533, 16 Apr 2013I would like to point out here that its not just the screen... moreThat space is necessary to protect your phones screen from accidental drops. One small mistake and you loose your screen, on top of that you loose the warranty as well. See the recent drop test, none with the thin bottom and top bezels survived.
