They've sold more foldables in China than everyone except Huawei. The majority of foldables sold are clamshells. The hardware advantage we see among book folds over the Z does not exist among clamshell foldables.

In 2010, Huawei had a contract with T-mobile. Who was stopping them from selling phones? No one but themselves because they decided to steal a robotic arm instead of focusing on building their brand. I guess it's just a habit they can't break.

I've always believed people will gravitate towards foldable hardware, but brand awareness matters. Chinese brands are known for their entry level and midrange phones. Asking people to jump from $200-$500 to $1300-$1500 is a tough sell when your brand isn't known for premium phones. That's like asking someone to buy a $120k Nissan.

I have an s23 ultra just because of the spen since im an artist.. to me its amazing! I love fold series but its just the exclusion of the builtin spen that keeps me away. If they include it, im definitely gonna get it!

If you wonder why the Chinese are "feared" in the West, the Samsung fold series is a good example. Only "western company" to be doing a foldable for years and only now are able to implement things that the Chinese have for 3 years now. At this point the Chinese are/were able to make their foldables to be less than 10mm thick, I,e. typical phone size when folded.

I expect the western companies to be "innovating" such a design in a few years from now...

S3bastian, 20 Jul 2023"No S Pen slot"... NO buy. No care

New year, new case. Here are some leaks.

The Z fold 5 will come with a new case which fits the S pen differently. Instead of a holder at the side, it's going to fit at the back with a bulge. It's not magnetic unlike the Tab S9, but okay.

The S Pen's going to come in more colours too, and if I'm not wrong, thinner than the previous S Pen.

S3bastian, 20 Jul 2023"No S Pen slot"... NO buy. Understand that an S pen takes up space, and the phone would be very thick and heavy if it was in there.

"No S Pen slot"... NO buy.

No thanks, I'll just get the Pixel Fold. This is basically the Z fold4 a year later

I was hoping for a slightly wider outer screen, I'm coming from the Fold 3 and I find it a bit hard to type on the outerscreen and I use that screen for "Phone" things, and inside for media consumption.
I know the fold 4 brought good battery life improvement and I'm hoping the fold 5 follow suit.
I do like the look of a gapless close too and a tiny bit better "pocketability"

Im looking forward to it, I want to upgrade my flip 3 but, Sammy will need to get more vibrant colors than usual as to me the new moto looks its a headturner thanks to it.

Can Samsung keep the water resistance despite using a different hinge? Well, we only can find out in the launch event.

Also, ZF4 is not the perfect device, but I sure as hell would rather have slightly deeper crease and 25% more battery life than the other way around, and yet people paint Find N2 like the biggest revelation since instant soup, and ZF4 like a garbage gimmick not worth 10% of its asking price.

Some people are just detached from reality.

Where did you get 2.4 million from? 14 million+ foldables were sold in 2022. Samsung sold over 10 million which was more than the 7 million they were projecting.

Foldables were never meant to replace to slab phones. They are meant to co-exist. Samsung is looking to triple those sales by 2025. If sales reverse and Samsung is only selling 2.4 million foldables by 2025, then you have an argument. Otherwise, your agenda has no bearing on Samsung's decision. BTW, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Motorola and Honor haven't sold 2.4 million foldables combined. Should they call it a day too?
