ARM unveils the Cortex-X4, its fastest CPU yet, Cortex-A720 and A520 and 5th gen GPUs join it

29 May 2023
Soon CPU clusters will be configured in 1+5+2 instead of 1+3+4. A new GPU architecture uses less bandwidth to deliver a higher performance.

with the A520/A720 being more efficient than ever whilst performance doing well, surely an SoC fitted with 6x A520 alongside 4x A720 would quite easily be good enough and more efficient than say a 1+5+2 configuration.

I suppose for extra performance that will undoubt in some respect be less efficient particularly coming from the Cortex X4 which in my view for many seems overkill yet flagship phones are continually increasing in price.

Exynos doesn't overheat anymore, the S23 Ultra is more cooler because has a better dissipation chamber, also most people feel that is cooler because the Qualcomm 8 gen 1 was a oven in the S22 series, and even more because most of the world got that inferior variant

The primary use case is not to open Geekbench, the primary use case is to record high framerate 4K video, edit and export that same video very quickly, run games at ludicrously high framerates, record and mix down a podcast from an external microphone. If you want benefits to social media go look at a snapdragon 6 gen 1 lol, because the Dimensity 9000 series and snapdragon 8 series is not for "average consumers". "Average consumers” aren't shopping anywhere near 1000$.

Anonymous, 30 May 2023Steam deck Screen is low rest 720p Smartphone mostly 1080pAm not talking about display here but soc power usage. Those are purely power consumption from soc not orher things. Use same deck as example at 5W you get around 5 hours of battery life with 40W/H battery, 5Wx5H is 25W/H so there is 15W/H which was used in other things. If 5W was Complete power usage you would get around 8 hours of battery life.

Also the bigger the display the more power it use, 720p tablet screen would use more power than 1080p small screen.
