Super Android 22, 01 Jun 2023In the past i would agree with you and you do have a point,... moreMost of what you said is true but Apple's ecosystem doesn't work well with 3rd party hardware. You have to have Apple's hardware even if it is a peripheral device. Apple intentionally sabotages 3rd party hardware.

A friend of mine bought a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard for his Mac. He was having issues with some of the advanced functions. Tried it with various other devices and with them it was working perfectly, even with an Android phone. Called up Logitech customer support but they told him to contact Apple support. The Apple staff blamed it on the keyboard and told him to get an Apple keyboard. That's their solution to almost everything.

A guy told Tim Cook that his mother can't send images to him, over iMessage, from an Android phone. iMessage doesn't support RCS. Cook told him to get his Mom an iPhone.

The whole workflow falls apart if even a single device is not from Apple. Suddenly the smart devices become dumb devices. There are alternatives to Apple ecosystem though. You just have to look harder.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2023if it doesn't end up compatible with pc games/windows ... morein that case just wait another 6 months and it'll be mainstream in any device

Why so bright tho??? I have a phone with less than 750nits at max brightness and it's completely usable even in bright light. For a vr headset which will deal with way less light from outside I just don't see the reason for it unless you want to burn your retinas

So just like i expected, nothing like you said and no mind games either, just you remembering things wrong 😁

Now Quest pro cost 1200 euros but i am still not buying it because Quest 3 will be so close to launch.

Most rumors say that this overpriced Apple device will cost around 2500-3500 dollars and i doubt this 1500 dollars.

Meta has great ecosystem of games(more will come today) and i am mostly focused for gaming for VR headset, for AR glasses that would be different use case.

And I'd not be surprised if it the case with the reality pro. But if the product comes out as good as we're expecting, it might be a gamechanger and Apple will have an upper hand in this industry.

Also cutting price by half sounds very weird, especially if Apple said both of those in their keynote? I don't remember this kind of thing happened?

Remember when Apple said the iPhone would cost $999 and people were disappointed for a minute and after continuing the presentation for 1-2 mins they said, the iPhone is gonna cost $499 and people went crazy. So in my opinion, it might be the same old mind game where they proposed a ridiculously higher price in the beginning and later came down to the original price, creating a hype. Apple is a master of mind games.

Stinger, 31 May 20234000 nits ... hahaha : this will burn your retina in 2 seco... moreActually 5000nits display engine brightness is quite low fir VR. The optical system typically eats 85+ % of the brightness of the display engine. In addition the optical engine can only be on for a short duty cycle to prevent image tearing and motion artifacts typically reducing brightness by around 80%. The combined effect is a resulting brightness to the eye of about 150 nits peak.
Too little to deal with ambient light (high end daylight readable phones typically have 800+ nits going to 1500 in some new models).
This explains why apple is releasing them as VR and not AR.
For AR the minimum display engine brightness will be around 15000 to 20000 nits...

Anonymous, 31 May 2023Overpriced Apple device I am waiting for Meta Quest 3 wh... moreIn the past i would agree with you and you do have a point, those vr headsets (HTC/meta quest/oculus etc) are more dedicated to standard users/gamers etc but the apple VR headset will be one of the best if not the best VR headset that the public can buy (even if it is more likely for professionals/companies and it will be the most expensive etc).

My mate is a web dev and has the full apple eco system for his work, got the apple 5k display, macbook air, iphone, ipad air, air pods etc and the experience is far superior to anything anyone else is doing (productivity wise and intigration of products in to an eco system). Walking me through everything and how it improves his work flow, its crazy fluid how all the products work in their own eco system and how efficient it is really shows you why professionals use apple. He does own a pc with an rtx 3080 and a 4k high refresh rate monitor but very rarely uses it purely based off it being far more awkward and less efficent than what apple is doing.

Yes there is certain issues but its mostly when trying to intigrate say windows based products or other non apple based devices like monitors to the set up. The apple VR headset will be outstanding to use in their own ecosystem and will be highly appreciated by professionals and developers that are invested heavily in apples products.

It really isnt for a standard user who just wants to game or use a VR device with their phone or laptop/pc and will most likely purely target an audience that A. Money isnt an issue or b. Focus mainly on high standards for their productivity and workflow.

I could see in the future using something like this for a new experience in how we engage in even web based interactions (maybe virtually experiencing a web page instead of a 2d web page as an example), could significantly change they way devs make websites and even other software based applications with AR and MR products. This part is only my opinion though.
