Definitely not "harmful", higher brightness is great for specular highlights. 600nits doesn't sound as impressive when you think about it!

No it won't be too bright, this is likely the display nits not the visible nit rating because pancake lenses reduce the light output significantly, last I heard was around 15% of the light actually makes it through so that would be a reasonable end result.
The other factor is that since it's OLED (assuming rumour true) then the higher brightness can mean significantly greater specular highlights, you don't tend to drive the entire panel range at peak brightness but small areas will be so the brighter the better (peak).

The $1,500 price tag makes more sense, although I wouldn't be surprised if the actual price meets somewhere inbetween. $1999 is my guess.

Mills, 31 May 2023This is likely to fail to me. 1500 is really steep for a XR... moreIt might not end up being as successful as their other products but it's absolutely not a joke. Compared to the Meta Quest Pro which is arguably its main competitor, Apple's headset seems more like space age technology while Meta's headset seems like a child's toy. This is much more impressive considering Apple's headset is launching at the same price that Meta's did at launch. I hate Apple as much as the next guy but their headset is definitely going to be a pretty good piece of hardware

Really not a fan of all this metaverse nonsense, but I’d love to see Apple succeed so that Meta stock value goes down the drain. It’s time for Facebook to pay for all the shady stuff they’ve done over the years. Billions in fines every once in a while is not enough.
