Samsung is working on a fix for blurry photos from the Galaxy S23 and S23+

02 June 2023
This issue came to be known as the "banana blur" due to its shape. A software fix promises to resolve it, in the mean time here are a couple of ways to avoid it.

Anton-, 02 Jun 2023I don't have to ask you absolutely anything!! 1 you do... moreHaha, sorry for not giving you the chance to repeat “Samsung have the best hardware" like you always do with my pre-emptive 'before you ask'. Don't worry, you can show your fanatic support to Samsung in other articles.

Mm returned an S22 with unsharp area between edges and center of picture so comparable to this. Samsung gave me a discount on a S22 Ultra then that i still use today just to be sure to get the max on photo quality. Wether the S22 was faulty or not was not of any concern; direct money back.
This offcouse could only float in the first weeks after purchase. Bought from Samsung and not in a shop so that helped too.

i bet samsung hasn't updated their algorithm for this or face unlock in over 5 years

polish princess, 02 Jun 2023sounds like s23 is junk! Not perfect. I was expecting much more from my S23+

"The post states that this will be resolved with a software fix, which suggests there are no hardware defects."

Or at the software will compensate for the hardware defect :)

Great... So "more shapnessesness" coming in with the next updates. How can this be avoided for users with good units?

There have been blurry cam issues going back to at least the S21 Ultra. Do a web search and see for yourself. Still bought my Ultra over the pixel 6 pro because my wife's pixel 6 pro has terrible battery life and takes forever to charge. I only got her the pixel because she uses Google classroom and related apps for teaching.

LOL. At first Samsung said everything was normal, kind of a bokeh effect...With all the disppointed customers they now say a fix is in the work...If they could not fix it for the S22, how would they fix it for the S23 ? That will be the first thing i will check on the S24, if i choose to get one. But S23 is now definitely out of my choice for a new phone.

This reminds me of Sonys first HDMI 2.1 TV XH90. The TV basically halfed the resolution on 4k 120hz because of a poor chipset. They promised a fix and all they did was increasing the sharpening to give a fake 4k look. Very very persistent buyers got their money back.

Jerrey, 02 Jun 2023This is only bothering and really noticeable if your taking... moreSame. I guess I never noticed it myself, as I'm a casual when it comes to taking photos. I don't remember the last time I took a picture of text on a paper so haven't seen it there either.

Then again, the people to make the most noise about the issue probably are enthusiasts and/or those looking for a reason to post something negative about Samsung. Of course, this is GSMArena, so we have plenty of that in spades.

                      sounds like s23 is junk!

This is only bothering and really noticeable if your taking lot of pictures of Text documents. But other than that, its hardly notiecable and looks like bokeh effect

That based from my usage of regular S23 since launhc. But I'm no camera guy so definitely didnt bother me and no regrets at all purhasing this, but other might be lol.

"This is because the rear wide-angle camera on the S23 and S23+ has a bright aperture, which helps when taking photos in the dark. However, this also means that more noticeable selective focus can make the background of your photos look a bit blurry."

Lol, do they think people are that dumb? Just using focus peaking with their expert raw app on a flat surface up close will show the uneven focus.

I was about to buy an s23 to give it to a girl

                            hahahaha better an s22 plus

Good luck hoping a software update will fix a hardware issue. And before you ask, nope, Samsung wont ever admit their phones have hardware issues. Previous S and A series have their own list of hardware defects, and never once Samsung did a recall.

no software can fix it,its hardware fault and all s23 and s23 + models should be recalled, samsung trying to sell existing ones at the very high discount in eu,currently s23 is 250 euro below its introducing price almost on the same price as s22 which is still available.
