And the only way to really bring this together is stop trying to make it an independent device. Everyone buying VR headsets has a smartphone. Likely a powerful one (anything over $500). So why not take advantage of that so it's more like a Samsung DeX solution and just minimize the power and bulk requirements on the actual headset itself? If they are not lightweight like sunglasses, it's not going mainstream.
This is a starting point. A beta. A prototype.

futile, both headsets not going to be mainstream. Their headsets are massive and requires commitment, also not suitable for outdoors. Their headsets like stationary game consoles PS5 or Xbox, powerful but still not as friendly and popular as the Nintendo Switch.
For the mainstream, it will be will micro oled glasses that looks similar to the Nreal or Rokid that may start without an SoC and battery, to connect to a phone, handheld, or PC

I love how Zuck became more and more irrelevant in recent years. And Musk is on that same path, despite his struggles.

Here's the problem with Meta's take on VR: They want the entire experience to become like Facebook, complete with all of the dark patterns. They also wanted an insane 47.5% cut on everything purchased through their platform, and then tried to point this as the future of work, whether you like it or not. Sounds like a dystopian nightmare to me.
Apple's take does not have that vibe to me.
