              This is extremely pathetic from Xioami, launching a successor to 2 year old Redmi 10 with the exact same SoC (MTK G88) in 2023 and no other upgrades. If this is how the smartphone OEMs are going to launch the phones in this year too (no upgrade whatsoever compared to even the 2 year old predessors in the lineup), then the overall smartphone market going down in unit sales is the only possible outcome.

                Anyone remember the time when Redmi series supposed to be compact and slightly worse version of Redmi Note series?

                Current naming doesn't make sense anymore when some of Redmi are even larger than Redmi Note phones.

G96 still comes with some phones released this year or during the last quarter of 2022. If it had at least a G96, that would be a significant better option than G88.

                                Anonymous, 15 Jun 2023€200 for 4G ? 😂What is wrong with 4G ? There are still loads of countries out there that can only have wet dreams to have better then 3G internet. While 4G in good connection area get you over 100mb speed. So what you need for 5G ???
                                There is pretty much 0 change in games with 4G and 5G on latency/ping

                                In games i only felt some difference when i went from up to 10mb speed to 100mb speed but nothing on going from 100 to 200mb in connection speed.
                                So where do you need these 5G speeds ? Especially on a phone that dont have you much on hardware for good gaming to get high fps and so on. Video streaming dont need much of internet speed like 5G offers. It's only when you need to download some 100GB size game that you need speed to get it under hour but even 4G at good reception should get 100GB downloaded in a hour

They discontinued a good chipset (even better than G99, if you ask me) released in 2020, but insists to produce G88, which was released in 2021. I saw a small number of rugged phones (Blackview if I'm not mistaken) with G96, which still would be a better option than G88.

                                  Anyway, sadly Redmi 12 is just a Redmi 10 without Gorilla Glass and one less 2MP useless camera.
