mr stoosh, 17 Jun 2023Decent looking compact flagship. Asus better improve on the... moreAsus is similar to Google and Sony, where smartphones are not their main business. That's why they don't give a bigger software commitment like Samsung, iPhone, or OnePlus, which in fact are companies that focus on smartphones. That's why they also don't really care if their phone didn't sell well. Their phone is for small amount of people who are fans of their phone.

I still see the headphone jack lip on the upper rim. Yay! Looks like they kept all the good things from the 9.

Anonymous, 17 Jun 2023Maybe those manufacturers started to be too tired to change... moreTo be fair, Apple does have the best business strategy among them:
        Body - Processor - Camera

Most people see the "NEW" body and immediately flock to it. This new form-factor uses things like Physical Design, Build Materials, New Colours, Screen Shape, etc etc to be the major differentiator. The marketing gets the consumers, and they regret it years later. If they merely held out for another year, they would've got a substantial performance increase. That new processor allows the device to receive Software Updates for a longer period too, but beside that it's a mild refresh. Now Apple adds a third year with that same device, and here they finally utilise the new processor in a practical way, by using more powerful optics. There might be other small refinements too (eg 5G, 120Hz, USB-C).

With that all said, the upgrades we're seeing year on year are getting smaller and smaller. We are seeing diminishing returns. Before it would make absolute sense upgrading your iPhone 2G to the 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S upon launch day. Since the iPhone 5S we've seen that cadence slow to a 2-yearly upgrade cycle for more sensible upgrades: skip 5, get 5S, skip 6, get 6S+, skip 7, get 8+, skip iPhone X. And recently it's gotten much smaller to the point of a 3-4 yearly cycle: skip Xs, skip 11, get 12, skip 13, skip 14, get 15. Just compare the Body of the iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14.... now compare their Processors A13, A14, A15, A16... now compare their Cameras of 1/2.55", 1/1.90", 1/1.70", 1.28". You can see the 2019 iPhone 11 Max (not the other models) is still a decent phone in 2023, with decent upgrade path, but the 2020 iPhone 12 doesn't really get a substantial upgrade with the newer models and you would have to wait at-least for the Late-2023 iPhone 15 for one.

These people have no taste in what they do. How ugly, I would like to know how it is possible to make a profit with this crap. I'm speaking on a general level. There is no perfect phone

People here complaining about lack of telephoto when most telephotos are trash either way + get a lot of help from AI crap algorithms (like Samsung does on those moon shots), so no need again for them.

Wide + Ultra Wide with good sensors is enough. Go buy the A54 if you want 4 cameras on your device.

it's going to be a hard sell next to the s23, lately one can get the 256gb version in italy for about 550€ with some promotions.. and the s23 one has 4 major os updates, a telephoto camera, and impressive battery life

They manufactured the phone, there can be as much space as they want. They decided the dimensions, they then decided what to fit within those dimensions

I wonder how many generations will take them to align front camera to the corner edges. Eye sore. Back looks like toy phone but whatever cant see it anyways, I use front

Kinda cheap that a punch hole camera used what level of security does it REALLY provide?

I like it, but man, if only they could've just shrunk the bezels by a little bit.

Promises to be a neat little phone for those who do not need a 7 inch screen, however it does look a bit like the Vivo Nord 26 Neo Pro Plus.

if you look close at the top just like on zenfone 9 u can see the little metal protrude where headphone jack is, so it's here again, awesome

Bzuco, 17 Jun 2023Compare teardown videos of zen9 and s23. There is no much ... moreBasically most manufacturer provide a mediocre sensor fot dedicated telephoto. Personally i won't mind a single camera but should be the very best. I think i have used the telephoto twice or thrice in last year and ultrawide as such. We don't need useless 4/5 cameras on the back where one is just good and rests are simply bellow average.

literally the zenfone 9 but everything perfected from the chin removed, better chip, hopefully that headphone jack is still at the top, just awesome compact phone

There is no much space for telephoto thanks to gimbal OIS. Even headphone jack is not something what can be overlooked.
If the phones would be 16:9 back again (or max. 18:9), then these 146mm height phones would be easier to reorganize inside. Or we need to wait for even smaller CPU/GPU/MEM chips.

                                        I'm using 9 and it's awesome
