HMD, as more and more brands left European market, your competitor is going lesser and lesser. This is your chance to be great again. Please make some robust devices, probably running on Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, or at least 6 Gen 1, with good camera performance to fill in the gap leftover

TheLastOracle, 20 Jun 2023Hahaha. Considering Europe doesn't really have it'... moreThis is not primarily about banning this is about patents

Once Nokia prevailed in Court, the onus was on the loserto come to an arrangement. They did not

In the beginning Samsung and others were selling feature phones, Nokia were making smart phone using their proprietary software Symbian.

They also filed patents for procedures they developed

Another commentator has quite correctly stayed that Apple pay Nokia billions, they do.

Apple did not come along an invent IoS like many believe,
IoS uses many procedures Nokia patented.
When Nokia took Apple to court Apple conceded rather than lose in Cour
                                    E
IoS is licensed to Apple by Nokia.
If these patents did not exist anybody could come along and make a phone
A recent example not phone related is some Covid vaccine
Lose in court barred from selling in that jurisdiction
They do not get to set up shop elsewhere. Ultimately there will be a FRAND TRIAL to determine SEP

Finally Nokia exit from Mobile phones fyi
Symbian OS was a 'neat' piece of software, it's flaw was that it couldn't be coded for touch screen or should I say it could but took a year and day.
Nokia then went to Microsoft and Nokia Microsoft phones came out.

Imo it appears that rather then get on with task of having an equal partner in mobile phones they delayed

This gave Google the edge (to develop an advert encroaching OS called Android)
Samsung e.g. released an Android version and Windows version of similar spec phone.

After Android got this edge nobody not one phone manufacturer released a Windows phone.

The final nail in the coffin was Microsoft releasing software on its soon to be launched flagship.

Windows Phone 10 OS did not work was not repairable in the end Microsoft stopped selling phones because each sale there was an immediate problem

And then there were 3 Operating System not for long
                                    Blackberry left.

Whether it be whatever Operating System, phone manufacturers must pay for the patented procedures it uses.

App developers follow phone sales just as an example,
Say Android and Blackberry existed in a parallel universe
                                    same size same secondary apps.

Manufacturers would imo pay less, as the many security patches needed on Android would not be as serious on Blackberry
