Weekly poll results: port-less phones may be an unfortunate future, according to most

25 June 2023
Few are enthusiastic about this possible future, but hopes that the EU will prevent it may be barking up the wrong tree.

Anton-, 25 Jun 2023People like you who ask for obsolete SD ports the old 3.5 j... moreYour reply is full of assumptions, insults, and straight up denial of how things actually work, but sure, I'll play your game, let's break this down.

SD cards are outdated:
SD cards are inexpensive to purchase, far less expensive than the equivalent internal storage. While SD cards are much slower than internal storage, this doesn't matter because they're not used for applications where this would matter. Functions such as watching 4K video, recording 4K video, recording lossless audio, playing lossless audio, indexing a media library, browsing a media library, or unzipping large files can be performed with little to no effect to performance on an SD card versus using internal storage.
How old the technology is, is irrelevant. It's a deflection meant to argue your point, without ever actually saying anything that gives concrete evidence that a feature is not useful.

The 3.5MM headphone jack is outdated:
Fun fact, the audio quality achievable with a cable is objectively better than Bluetooth is right now. The bottleneck is not the cable. It never was. Given that, much like your last point, it's completely irrelevant to point out that it's outdated, given that even our best technology is not limited by the connector. Once again, a deflection that defends your viewpoint without ever actually saying anything to objectively prove my statements wrong.

I'm not going to address your insults, hopefully one day you can gain enough maturity to not resort to insults when somebody disagrees with your viewpoint.

You talk about changing Roms and stuff like it was 2011 when it was a tasbum, my 12-year-old nephew can do things with a phone that you can't even imagine

The people who want portless phones are the same NPCs watching TikTok for 8 hours a day and making little 1080p edits with AlightMotion. People actually doing things with their phones know how dumb an idea it is. What about custom ROMs? What about when you don't have cell service but do have a LAN connection? What about external hard drives? What about external thermal cameras? What about SD card readers? What about HDMI capture cards or even just dongles? What about ADB? Wireless debugging is a less robust solution than using a cable. None of the wireless solutions to these problems are anywhere near the same level of reliability or functionality. Why do you want companies to stomp on you. Stop letting them. It's why you lost the headphone jack, it's why you lost expandable storage, and it'll ultimately be why you lose the USB-C port. For techies, y'all really like getting worse tech.

It can be good if implemented correctly and should be robust in comparison to wired, but user replaceable batteries are a must along with a common wireless charging like qi.

The technology certainly needs to keep advancing, it won't be long before charging ports are completely gone, just like the volume of the physical buttons! make all that go away!!
