Danuk, 23 Apr 2013Care to add to that statement or are we playing finish my t... moreWhy do i need to add anything more? It's a simple but TRUE statement, i'll write it again.. it's nothing to do with patents.
Nokia had exclusivity to it for a 12 month period, ST thought it was only 6 months and so it started allowing HTC to use it (wrongly)
Good enough for you?
PS: It still has nothing to do with patents.

This is a bit puzzling the mic was first used in Nokia 808 as an exclusive so did HTC get it? Next here is a solution HTC pays Nokia then sue ST Electronics also HTC fans should be happy it aint Apple you sure would expect a ban

i have been in the mobile repair business 14 years. patents have always been in dispute, but its not until the apple ones made it to the news that it became public (trust me, all manufacturers were at this years ago).
normally they go to court and get some ruling, then they will all meet and discuss a price to pay and once thats settled its all done with.
at least this is clear case of stealing hardware (or the company selling without authorisation), unlike apple patenting a rounded rectangle..

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2013Why, Nokia didn't steal the technology, it created it! In ... morei'm not saying reward theft I'm saying closing the market due to this type of issue only restricts consumer choice . The sensible resolution would be for HTC to compensate Nokia and allow for both phones to be available . Otherwise the only phones on sale would be those beloging to the company with the most lawyers .

A patent to get the profit back is ok, but a patent to block a competitor is just a plain evil for customer choice. Nokia=Apple now.

Guys, if you like Nokia technology, buy Nokia. But don't pretend Nokia to give its patents for free. Without respect for propriety no company will be interested in innovate anymore.

hey , 23 Apr 2013wait for the judgement , simply don't practice typing here... moreAll phones developed since 808 pureview have it even my lumia 620 a lowend phone has it. And the end result is that audio captured through it is better than any camcorder available in market

I don't understand people protecting Nokia in this case. If it is patent protected, why is it sold to HTC in the first place? Shouldn't STElectronics the one to be blamed here?
They could come to an agreement before bringing this to the court, not making it a global news like highlighting " HTC is a thief " or something.
HTC just becomes the victim for no reasons, for consistently acquiring good quality hardware to build their phones, and they face this without being given any notices. How sick can this be?

AnonD-133243, 23 Apr 2013this case is very easy to solve, enough that htc to pay to ... morePatents essentially give the owner a monopoly on the intellectual property for a period of time. It's not a right to produce, but a right to prevent others from using said property. Nokia doesn't (and shouldn't) license this tech as it is critical to its differentiation as a manufacturer. To do so would be gross negligence.
Sorry, but IMO HTC is going to have to cease using this Nokia hardware in its devices.

Just Saying, 23 Apr 2013From what I understand, Nokia isn't going after money from ... moreSo, how is it possible that HTC engineers were ignorant to the HAAC components exclusive nature when the very same mics were used on Nokia's 808 (launched over 1 year ago) with its RichRecording. HTC most likely knew this was problematic...it simply took the risk of not getting caught. IMO.
Nokia simply wants its contract manufacturer (STM) to stop supplying Nokia's design's to the competition and for the courts to impose an injunction in order to protect its rightful property.
