Anonymous, 02 Jul 2023I don't know what distorted bubble you're in. The... moreMan rumors here rumors there.
All any and every hype is talked a lot about.
Like oneplus of old times when they litterary NEVER SETTLE.
Can you say that again and nowdays???
Of course you cant because from one or two phones a year it went to 20+ phones a year ad they are no longer the company they were when Carl Pei was in charge.
Nothing phone is far more hype than Flip or Fold.
No matter how much you look at said phones or speak about them truth is that people which bought them just for the hype and accidentaly broke the super fragile screen with oh so amazing Samsung UTG or UltraThinGlas which is equal to said bubble in durability
(Even a wings of mosquito can withstand more damage). Those people at repair centre will realize they wont buy phone like this anymore.
Reason pretty easy. High repair cost and unable to use tempered glass screen protector.
And said existing cases wont help much either because they protect more outside of the phone than inside. Man people know this litterary any and every of my customers which had and tried phone like this said never more.
Durability is here dealbreaker.
Unless corning or some other company making screens for phones will come with something equal or better than GG Victus for example some kind of shapphire screens which can flex, fold but cannot breaks this hype i am predicting to maybe 5 more years and will be done for.
Just like the pop up cameras, SD slots and 3,5 mm jacks,
Soon or later everyone will realize that. And once customers stops fueling this hype they are done for.
Its simple as that even you cant deny it unless you are so rich it litterary does not matter if you break your folding phone every single day to buy a new and starts again.
Anyway wish you a pleasant day my friend.

Dunno what corning is up to but do you really believe there sould be a glass with a strenght of a shapphire screen and can flex, flip even bend but cannot breaks or scratches???
Man i dont think so.
Maybe if they make possible a startrek technology with their funny windows on spaceships it could make some difference.
Apart from that i dont believe into said mirracles.

Darth Caesium, 01 Jul 2023Corning is experimenting with something that they were supp... moreGorilla Glass Willow and UTG are essentially the same like Rogaine and Minoxidil. The names are just branding. Also, Samsung does not make the UTG. A German company called Schott makes it.
The last I read, Corning's flexible glass is still too thick so there is no telling when it will be ready or if it will be more reliable than what we have now. Personally, I would like to see one of these manufacturer's use LG's Real Folding Window.

Aspros, 01 Jul 2023I had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, i am now addicted to the big sc... moreI had planned to wait for Samsung to integrate the S-Pen into the design, but saw a Fold 4 in a used gear shop for £770, which is less than the Ultra 23 is selling for. So I traded in my awesome Note 20 Ultra and a few other things for the Fold 4. I'm never going back. I did not realise just how much a difference the big almost square screen makes and how cleverly Samsung have customised the UX to take advantage of it. I never ever use the outer screen, mainly because I use an iPhone 13 mini for calls and text chats, the Fold 4 being my work workhorse for sketching, spreadsheets, task management, YouTube etc.
What's really fantastic is how you can lay it on your bed half folded to watch YouTube podcasts to lull you to sleep, or use it as a camera tripod by again, having it half folded so the camera is kept upright, either with the phone on it's ends or horizontally. Great for group shots or recording an event.
Anyone on the fence, if the Fold 5 isn't much different than the 4, get a used 4 - or get a 5. These things are the future. I hardly touch my iPad Pro 11" any more.
I'm sure Apple will release an iPhone that unfolds to become an iPad, and you can bet it will be much slimmer than Samsung's too, which is probably why Apple are taking their time. (Not that the thickness of the Fold 4 is an issue. It isn't. It's narrow enough to slip into a pocket. I have the Samsung case that has the slot for the S-Pen on the back BTW.)

Aoi Akane, 30 Jun 2023I don't understand the use of RAM above 8GB on a smart... moreThe kernel-space: Your Android phone runs on top of the Linux kernel. The kernel is stored in a special type of compressed file extracted directly into RAM during the device power-on sequence. This reserved memory holds the kernel, drivers, and kernel modules that control the hardware and room to cache data in and out of the kernel.
A RAMdisk for virtual files: Some folders and files in the system tree aren't "real." They are pseudo files written at boot and hold things like battery levels and CPU speed data. With Android, the whole /proc directory is one of these pseudo file systems. RAM is reserved, so they have a place to live.
Network radios: Data about your IMEI and radio settings are stored in NVRAM (Non-Volatile memory that's not erased when you power off your phone), but get transferred to RAM along with the software needed to support the modem when you first turn on your phone. Space is reserved to keep this all in memory.
The GPU: The graphics adapter in your phone needs memory to operate. That's called VRAM, and our phones use integrated GPUs that have no stand-alone VRAM. System RAM is reserved for this.
Once that's done, and your phone is up and running, what's left is the available RAM your phone needs to operate and run apps. A portion of this is also reserved for things that need to happen quickly (low-level operating system functions and housekeeping), but it's reserved a different way. These are software-based settings the people who wrote the OS and built the kernel for your phone set, and it keeps a set minimum amount of RAM free so these low-level functions can be done as needed without having to wait for an app to free any memory.

[deleted post]Yes, it does. Like Android phones, iPhones need RAM to manage the running of various processes and apps. But iOS (the iPhone's operating system) doesn't need as much RAM as Android. So, why does iPhone have less RAM?
Ios is fake , it's not even Linux, but Darwin OS for newbies. Ios has fake multitasking that's why it has 24mb l3 cache with low memory so they can cut cost corners

[deleted post]It keeps your apps in the memory so that those apps open faster, making your whole Android experience better. If you open an app and there is a shortage of RAM to run it, your system will clear some RAM for it automatically without requiring you to take any action

[deleted post]The more RAM your phone has, the more stuff it can keep in its working memory. As you open additional apps (or additional content within a single app), your phone allocates available RAM to each new process.

You funny.
As long as flip and fold phones will continue to release with a very easy breakable screens this flip and fold have no future at all.
Maybe next 3-5 years and said phones are done for.
People have something else to do than fixing their screens every time it gets accidentaly damaged because its durability is equal to a soap bubble.

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2023Do you really compare LCD to OLED screen?
I mean, of cours... moreMan yes i believe into this too.
But can you imagine how long it could takes until Samsung creates something more than a tiny foil layer called UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and even flip or fold will have GG victus on main screen or better.
Glass is glass and will break. Something else was Shatterproof glass or screens by Motorola but since maybe 2014 or 2015 phones with shatterproof screen does not come and no other company than Motorola and maybe Lenovo which is the same used them.
Just like the Hype around PoPuP cameras. Maybe 5 phones were made globbaly but since 2020 maybe early 2021 no more phones with PoPuP cameras are released and that hype ended.
This will end too because as long as we dont have proper GG Victus or better on main screen and phones like flip and fold have nothing to evolve not with current technology and possibilities people will give up stop buying for many obvious reasons and this flip and fold hype will banish as it nver happened. Just like the Windows phones.
Companies making apps found them struggling with windows in phones and gave up.
As soon as people realize they buying expensive gimmick but apart that they get nothing back only said gimmick with a very fragile screen hype will ends.
In other words giving the flip and fold phones maybe 5 more years or up to 2030.
If nothing changes for main screen and no screen protector could be instaled to help with durability there are no bright times for this somewhat interesting but in other words useless gimmicks called flip and fold. And when Samsung will realize that others will realize too.
In other words nothing will beat bar phones.
Like in past we had many phones in many shapes and designs but nothing of that prevailed up to now and only bar phone survived as a very easy winner with a flying colours.
