132639, 04 Jul 2023Why lie about having a bachelor's degree in internatio... moreI'm not lying, and clearly not everyone understand the basic principle as you can see many comments here reflect that they don't understand something this simple. Their writing seems to indicate that they believe that youtube can keep exisiting without an income stream from either paid subscribers or ad revenue. They can't. YouTube have always been struggling and cutting off freeloaders will help the platforms fincances, as they no longer have to support the traffic of customers that represents zero income and only cost to them.

They're just trying to be greedy. They want ads on their platform, cool. They want sheeps to pay for some laughable service to remove those ads, even better. But trying to block us "freeloaders"? haha, good luck with that.
Only people they will hurt is themselves, as people switch over to other video sharing sites and ditch Google services.

Marco M, 04 Jul 2023I have a bachelor's degree in international marketing.... moreMarco, that is really nice what you wrote. You summarized basic fact about youtube, but you are missing much more important facts, which in case of youtube are not based on the law or any contract with the visitors...I already mentioned them.
If youtube will continue with this ad blocking test on the user side, they are playing dangerous game. They can easily get into trouble and face charges of invasion of privacy. Again, I mentioned two basic facts I am alowed to do on the user side(on PC/NB/phone and internet connection) with downloaded webpage data....you probably don't know how the ad blockers work.
People you called "freeloaders" and people like you - paying for not showing ads are in the same category because they do not represent an increase in the income of advertisers...they are not potential buyers of products/services from ads....and that means less interest of advertisers to advertise something on YouTube and that means less income for YT. Think twice next time when you will blame people.
Btw. yout point number 3 is very funny, almost childish :)))

Marco M, 04 Jul 2023I have a bachelor's degree in international marketing.... moreWhy lie about having a bachelor's degree in international marketing if you know it won't matter? Your "basic" principle is something any 3rd grader understands. Anyone with a slightly more matured brain knows that people given the choice to not pay for something, will choose to not pay. I'm not convinced you have a bachelor's degree with that level of simplistic intellect.

Bzuco, 04 Jul 2023It looks like you don't have general awareness about a... moreI have a bachelor's degree in international marketing. Not that it matters.
Here is a very basic principle: If you want to enjoy a service or a product offered by a company, then pay for it.
Do you understand that?
It is very simple, but still it seems difficult for you, so let me try to help you understand.
1) Youtube is a video streaming service.
2) YouTube offer content creators the possibility to upload and share videos for free, or even pay the creators if their content follows the rules for monetization. These rules are heavily influenced by marketing companies, as they pay YouTube for showing their ads, but of course they do not wish for their ads - and therefore public profile - to be associated with negative videos/messages. This is why some videos/channels are not suitable for monetization.
3) The general public may watch content on their site if they either:
- a) Pay for YouTube Premium
or
- b) Watch ads. The advertisers then, in short, pay on the viewers behalf.
4) For a long time it has been possible for freeloaders to enjoy content from YouTube for free. By using ad-blockers that prevent YouTube, and the content creators, in earning revenue from the content the freeloaders watch. These freeloaders are very bad and selfish people. By using ad-blok they don't support the content creators - who's content they enjoy - and they contribute to killing the video streaming platform they are using by not allowing them any income. These people are now finally facing a wall, and rightfully so.
5) Streaming services costs a lot of money to run and content creators also spend a lot of time working to create what they consider to be good content for their viewers. Some selfish people are under the impression that they deserve to get this for free. These people are selfish and just plain bad.
6) YouTube is still operating at a loss and blocking freeloaders will to some extent reduce the traffic and cost related to freeloaders. This in turns help the platform to survive so that content creators can continue their business and paying customers (through premium or watching ads) still get to use the streaming service they support at a fair price or amount of ads.
7) The more freeloaders on any platform, the higher the cost for the rest. This is why many websites will not let you in to their site if you use ad-block. Why should I have to pay more, or see more ads, because of selfish freeloaders? I shouldn't, end of discussion. The only solution is to block the freeloaders.
8) If you are one of the freeloaders that now faces a wall from YouTube, then great. You deserve it.

I have been ad blocking youtube for years. About a year ago they started downgrading the video. I would click on 1440p and as I would watch it it would drop to 360p, so I had to download an add on the forces it to stay 1440p. Now it looks like I will have to download an adblocker blocker block.

Bzuco, 02 Jul 2023It is only youtube problem they sign an agreement with adve... moreYou really don't understand how this works, and your comment made that very clear.
YouTube isn't a simple webpage. YouTube hosts billions of videos for free. That costs a lot of money and YouTube has to pay for the storage, they have to pay for the bandwidth etc. How do they pay? With income from advertisers and paying customers.
For you, me and everyone else to be able to access these videoes, someone has to pay.
If you don't want to pay for youtube premium, then you can still watch against watching ads.
However, if you don't want to pay and if you don't want to watch ads then you don't deserve any access at all to this service. It is very simple. No freeloaders. I am not interested in paying for you, or any other freeloaders.
Either pay or watch the ads, or don't use the service. Your freeloading will not be missed by anyone. Not by the content creators for the content you want to watch, but not pay for, and not for us paying customers (premium or ads) who don't have to subsidize your freeloading anymore.

genius, 02 Jul 2023Lmao? They have been doing it for over 15 years now and the... moreExcuses, excuses. You don't want to pay, you want everything free.
You have three choices, either pay(1) or watch the ads(2), or don't use the service(3).
You not using the service is a win for everyone, except you.
YouTube have always struggled with profitability, btw. Some years YouTube have been several hundreds of millions dollars in loss. It's only kept alive by Google because they can afford the loss, but of course they want to make it profitable. Getting rid of freeloaders is a good step towards this.
The user base and bitrates have also increased drastically since 2006. But hey, with your attitude to freeloading, I'm sure your not paying for any other streaming service or any other type of subscription for anything. Right?
Why should companies and individual creators create and serve content for you completely for free without any pay? What makes you so special that you deserve that? Nothing.

The ad revenue model is so so very stoopid in the digital era. People are practically having supercomputers in their pockets basically doing nothing for 99% of the time. Instead of charging people (either through ads or actual money), get permission to use the resources of the phones (only when using the app) as a form of fog computing. There are certainly ways to do it discretely, one that doesn't impact the resources of the phone too much but at the same time you can get something of value from the user without requiring to spy them and/or have them pay.
We're not in the 20th century, there have to be alternatives to the ad model at this point. Btw the compute you can get from 2 billion phones, no matter how miniscule from each phone separately can rival the biggest supercomputers in existence. You can then rent those resources to those willing to pay. The ad model circa 2023 is so creepy and I honestly hope it goes the way of the dodo, lol.
