I bet the new foldable laptop will have a proprietary charging port not compatible with European laws.

If everyone would think and use devices as you do, and if most devices would be so manageable and customizable as those devices from 2009 would, I believe that we as a society would truly reach equilibrium and live lives oriented towards people and not towards accumulating things. Not to mention what TRUE positive impact would this kind of usage have on the environment. Also on other side, I always laugh when the removal of phone chargers is mentioned in any debate, because that's what really helps the "environment". What a world...what a world.

i am still using an hp elitebook from 2009. it cost 2000$. i installed windows 10 some years ago and uninstalled all bloatware (= i-am-going-to-report-everything-you-do-to-microsoft-and-co-ware). i prohibited any software updates. i switched the old ram with new 8gb ram chip. it runs faster than the brand new 2000$ hp laptop of my colleague. instead of ms office i use libre office. it is on the same level with ms office. no ms office subscriptions, nosystem trackers, no accounts, full control over any activity on the device. it has 4 usb ports and about a dozen other different ports for anything you want to connect.
oh, and the battery is removable and you don't need to open up the bottom side of the laptop to get it out, you just move a slide seal and the battery detaches from the laptop body.
the laptop has a massive, premium, brushed aluminum body and solid, thick plastic on the bottom side.
and again, it is from 2009 and still working. laptops of today in the same price range look like low earner laptops next to it. they haven't even half of its ports, they have a narrower screen, you need to unscrew the laptops cover to get out the battery in case you don't want it.
and then some fruit company in 2023 talks about foldable screen laptop and how innovative it would be.

Lenovo started the foldable laptop with ThinkPad X1 Fold. People really love taking Chinese companies' innovation and claim it as their own

Being foldable, it won't be cheap since the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold costs $3,499. By contrast, the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i's dual-screen laptop has two OLED screens and costs $1,999. Also, as someone who sold off the Samsung Galaxy Fold and currently daily driving an LG V50 with its detachable Dual Screen case, I can easily say that the latter is way more practical than the former as I can independently run two different apps together without relying on screen splitting, which most apps still don't natively support.

I bought a used Fold 4 a few weeks ago because at the used price, I could justify it. In fact, it cost £200 less than a used Ultra 23. I am never going back. Superb phone that has with the exception of one or two apps, replaced my 11" iPad Pro. For it to be perfect and almost replace my Macbook Pro too, we need the following in the Fold 6: 1. Stylus bay. 2. Slightly larger unfolded 1:1 display, say 16cm x 16cm. 3. Thinner when folded. 4. Optional clip on mechanical keyboard that would rest over the lower part of the inner display when the phone is folded half way, like I think can be done with the included keyboard with the folding screen Lenovo and/or ASUS laptops.
Anyway, well done Samsing persisting. Looking forward to the Fold 5.
What Apple need to do is not a folding laptop so much but an iPhone Pro that opens up to be an iPad Pro with the same specs as what I specify for the Fold 6, above.
(I am a power user who does spreadsheet, documents editing, content consumption, video editing, sketching and on the iPad Pro, 3D modelling. I LOVE the fact I can have a power user device fit in my pocket.)

17.3" foldable 2560 x 1920 4:3 &
12.5 foldable 1920 x 280 3:2
As you can see the keyboard magnetically overlays the bottom half of the table switching off that part of the display. It can be used remotely.
The Asus weighs 1836 grams with keyboard, it is also military grade protected
Asus charges $3600
This is all about money, whatever ratio Apple PC or laptops compared to the general market that ratio will apply here $3600 times
Apple will not bring in a competitive priced model Apple will include a high % markup.
If this device is produced it will almost certainly be in provided to employees whose budget is from the public purse, even dare I say it schools
I did watch a couple of YouTube videos on the Asyd and viewed the product on Asus website.
It is already a premium device offering size and foldability multiple screens? In products already out there.
If others the market, the overall market will be more competitive, ATM if the video is correct there is no stylus support.
We'll see if a premium device competes with an equally spec Apple device

The way Apple hold back going for the latest tech on their products I can be pretty sure this isn’t going to happen. Still using the same low res 200 PPI LCD screens from a decade ago! Others are using 4K OLED screens!

As a laptop this makes no sense: inferior keyboard, higher price, reduced durability of the screen. Though it would be fun to see Apple explain why, after years of saying that touchscreen laptops are no good for anything, they have now done a complete U turn (though it's not the first time, so I'm sure the hypocrisy wouldn't bother their spin doctors).
So I assume that such a device is primarily seen as a "big screen tablet that can be folded for transport", with the "laptop mode" being a secondary usage. But as it would also be too unwieldy for my main tablet usage (reading and annotating documents) this sounds like something that would not replace either device for me, never mind both.
Of course if they would just grow up and add touch functionality to their current laptops I would have a use for that...
