07 July 2023
It will be unveiled in 2025 and released in 2026, the story goes.

There were rumors about such surface devices maybe 2 years before(or it feels like that much), but real devices are already available from other brands.
Not much excitement in west, be it phones or laptops.
Hope it change soon.

If this is true, will they nerf it so that it wouldn't eat the sales for macbooks & ipads the same way they nerf ipads so that ipads wouldn't eat the sales of macbooks? 🤔

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2023Here come the blind apple hate comments.I am Apple user, but seriously I can't see the need for foldable laptops.
The idea of a foldable phone I can understand (to some extent). Some people need bigger displays in their pockets (to consume content on larger screen on the go).

But what is the point of a foldable laptop? The weight will be pretty much the same, so no plus when you need to carry it around. And if you use it in landscape mode (unfold it) is too big to be in your hands (like tablet). So, you need to use it on your desk or something. At this point you are better of with normal laptop connected to a nice big monitor on your desk (for larger display).
Maybe I can see some use for business people. If they need immediately some bigger display to show some presentation or something. But, even in this cases, majority of offices have already built in projectors in special rooms for this kind of things.

Yes (even though I still don't like the concept of putting a mobile OS on a bigger screen, even until now, that's why I'm not a fan of iPads and Android tablets). But iPhone? Eh tbh it's just our "pure opinion" and still debateable since the iPhone is just ONE of the pioneers of touch screen smartphones with no keyboard. About how smart is iOS (or it's called iPhone OS at that time), I can actually say the same with Symbian or Blackberry OS, both already pretty smart and modern at that time.

Would only make somewhat sense if it extends the display sidewards or upwards. If it’s about killing the physical keyboard like the weird asus thing depicted, then it’s more a solution in search of a problem. Also, it would be a plastic screen again which scratches.

Modern Apple is what Microsoft used to be, always reimplementing others' ideas, but unlike Microsoft they are actually more competent in doing so and unlike Microsoft they wait for a whole decade instead of just 5 years (that Microsoft would wait) before said reimplementation.

Popular foldables started in late '10s, so Apple releasing theirs around late '20s makes sense...

does this mean we are finally going to see touchscreen macbooks in the future? I'm so surprised apple is late on this one. After using my touchscreen windows laptop I accidentally and intuitively touch my macbook air screen, and when it does not do anything it feels so weird.

IMO the difference between laptop and tablet is the physical keyboard. If you replace physical keyboard with virtual one, it no longer remain laptop, it becomes tablet.
So foldable tablet would be a better name for it.

Physically typing has it's own please

Hmm, we'll see how it fares when it launches. I think for me (my opinion), having a convertible laptop that I have right now is the best option, as I can use it both as tablet mode if I need to use something that comfortable as tablet mode (drawing, reading, watching, etc.) and laptop mode (typing on a physical keyboard, doing numbers work, etc.) in a nick of time.

So when Apple were explaining the reason to not include touchscreen on their macs,

                                      that was just an excuse.
