justasmile, 15 Jul 2023There's Samsung A24. It's a really great phone.Sure, Samsung has better SoC and software. Again, in the end, it’s about trade offs. The A78 still has the benefit of 256GB, IP54, and more compact size.

major phone malls are full of saleswoman, every customers have to push people into buying their oddo and oviv phones. most oddo and oviv saleswoman have their 10 layers of makeup. this is why buying devices in online shops are much reliable. but requires time to deliver. atleast no saleswoman pushes you into buying overpriced trash devices.

potato4k, 14 Jul 2023Again, trade offs. Moto G72: Only 128GB Samsung M14: LCD ... moreDefinitely. Oppo has caught lightning on a bottle when it comes to the average consumer. But speaking as an enthusiast I'll definitely choose any of the above phones over this one solely based on the chipset. It's old. It won't cut it in the long run at least for my usage.

                  R4TM4NN, 14 Jul 2023For around 230$. There's Moto G72, G73 (offers) G62. S... moreAgain, trade offs.
                  Moto G72: Only 128GB
Samsung M14: LCD and much heavier, no IP rating
Poco X5: larger and wider body, retail availability
Infinix Note 30: Definitely a good phone bang for the buck, but still larger and heavier, and no IP rating

In the end, each has something to offer for consumers. The Oppo A78 in the eye of the regular consumer is quite attractive. OLED, 256GB, NFC, stereo speaker, IP54, and if you are in 3rd tier cities, you are more likely finding an Oppo phone at your local retailer than something like a Poco.

Poco X5 5g, Infinix note 30 5g. These are some i can name off my mind. These phones cost around 200-250$ here in india. I'm not sure about the pricing in Indonesia

enpy, 12 Jul 2023Why is eMMC so bad now? I remember using cheapo android pho... moreeMMC has been bad from the start. eMMC was designed for passive devices like MP3 players and SD-cards on digital camera, not for actual multi-purpose devices like smartphones/computers. It's half duplex, compared to UFS which is full-duplex.

I remember using cheapo android phones around 2010 to 2012 that didn't have these issues. eMMC cannot keep up with modern android and should be phased out entirely imo.

Regardless. I just use the a23 to listen to podcasts at work

Where I live, Oppo still sells the Reno 5 in an online store in the Philippines. THE RENO 5, a two-year-old phone, is still SOLD HERE. Without access to the true PRO variant of this phones and getting the PH special Z model

Like you said yourself, trade offs. It all depends on what you're looking for on a phone. But let's face it, for the regular user, this A78 gives quite a lot. NFC, stereo speakers, AMOLED, fast charging, 256GB storage, slim design and quite light despite having 5000mAh battery. these are the things that regular people will appreciate. They don't care if you have a much better SoC but don't have NFC or only have mono speaker. And remember, there's the TWS bonus.

Believe, I hate BBK brands. But when something is not bad, I gotta give them credit for it.

you have to suffer, 11 Jul 2023for 256gb storage, i would rather choose infinix note 30. e... moreGood alternative. Infinix is the new underdog, pushing better bang for the buck than even Xiaomi. But then, let's say the Infinix Note 30, it's much bigger and heavier than this A78. And retail availability wise, Oppo is still king, especially once you go to 3rd tier cities. This is why Oppo (and the other BBK gang) is so popular in many parts of Asia despite their seemingly "poorer" value.

I said build quality compared to the likes of Xiaomi or even Infinix. Believe me, Xiaomi's failure rate is also pretty high. At these price segment, Xiaomi's material of choice and quality definitely feels cheap. Oppo, to their credit, actually paid attention to these things, and as you mentioned in the other post, they went for bling and shiny as it attracts these customer segment. The fact that at least this gives 256GB of (presumably) UFS storage means people will at least get a decent phone.

Kontoloyo , 10 Jul 2023Too bad Indonesian people to dumb enough to realize it'... moreaverage customers in indonesia are looking for design only. which is oppo's main selling point. in adverts, they dont show what soc they have. it only shows storage, ram extension, and "eye catching" design.. it goes the same as vivo Y series.

potato4k, 11 Jul 2023Redmi Note 10 Pro is old and hardly available anymore at re... morefor 256gb storage, i would rather choose infinix note 30. even though it had LCD, larger display compared to a78. but it had ip53. idk if its present in regular or pro variant. helio g99 is much better compared to 680. the only cons is the software update. also, the redmi note 12 pro 4g is basically redmi note 10 pro with 256gb storage and different housing. just wanted to know.
if oppo's build quality is "better" then why so many customers bring their phones into a repair shop then?

potato4k, 11 Jul 2023I would argue that this is actually not that bad. For typic... moreFor longevity, they can put at least "overrated" Helio G99 or "overrated' Snapdragon 695, which is also favored by TSMC.
Alternatives? Yes, there is, but with some drawbacks:
                                        - Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G (announced last year, heavier weight, comes with MIUI and there's no 256 GB storage option)
                                        - Realme 10 (announced last year, no stereo speakers)
                                        - iQOO Z7s (no stereo speakers, no NFC, and no 256GB option)
                                        - iQOO Z7x (IPS (even though some people consider that to be an advantage), heavier weight, and no NFC)
                                        - Infinix Note 30/30 Pro that comes with IP53 (30 has IPS, heavier weight, and the software is questionable)
