13 July 2023
Reports claim that Samsung is experimenting with stacked batteries, which have a higher density and support faster charging but are more difficult to manufacture.

it can also means this new battery tech is new things for samsung-products-line-up only
as it didnt mention "first" in the world or such

Koishi Komeiji, 13 Jul 2023New Samsung's battery tech? Look, 65W SuperVOOC a... moreIt's 2019 technology to be exact, or at least that's when 65W was first commercially available on the Oppo Reno Ace.

Before that in 2018, the Oppo Find X Super Flash and Lamborghini Edition could charge with 50W, and also the Oppo RX17 Pro.

Do you have any personal experience with that, or just saying it because that's how it would make sense?

I've been using a phone with 120W fast charging since 2020, for over 2 years and still see no issues with it's battery life. The main important thing is, that you aren't charging one battery with 120W, but rather 2 batteries with around 60W and even that only for a short time.

Meh, high power charging for a few minutes, because it gets too hot otherwise. And if they've been too enthusiastic it shortens the life of the battery (which may be in their interest but isn't in yours). All of this "50W charging", "65W charging", "100W charging" is just the current gimmick from the "big numbers" school of marketing.

                          New Samsung's battery tech?

Look, 65W SuperVOOC and 67W Xiaomi Flash Charge exists early ahead than Samsung's Fast Charging.

I‘d be interested in a source for the last sentence:

„By the way, Apple is expected to use stacked batteries for all iPhone 15 models.“

Didn’t hear of that until now.

The massive investments in battery technology for EVs and home energy storage may finally bring improvements to the almost-stagnant battery technology.

Batteries are really the reason why we don’t have thin/light/small phones anymore. It seems like 5000mAh has been established as the threshold for when a phone has „enough“ battery. If a small phone with a smaller screen could be powered then by, for example, a 4500 mAh cell, it could achieve similar endurance. Until then, it will be bricks galore.

I know this article is about speed not capacity. I think speed is almost equally important. The thing is that both more speed and more capacity require more space, and advancements in battery technology can reduce the space/weight required for the same speed/capacity.

Anonymous, 13 Jul 2023'New' battery tech? 😄Well, new to Samsung that is. They really are like "Apple, but worse" at this point.

Finally, that would be awesome, an actually huge upgrade.. for Samsung.

It’s the so called Chinese battery tech from years ago with a Samsung logo for 3x the price
