This is really a story about income inequality and how some people have more money than they know what to do with it. So they throw it away on dumb things. In a just and fair world, no one would have that much money to waste on old, out of date, no longer useful hardware.

Your thinking is the thinking of poor people who can't see the real "value". Not the price itself, or some device. There's a whole story behind it, the feeling of having something others can never have combined with the fact that it was something that changed the future.

The device is probably already unusable even right now as the battery has been sitting for 15 years in a drained state - at a minimum it needs a battery swap. The value is in the unopened box. Why do you think some literal toys/dolls from the 1970s are worth even more than 190k because they are still in original packaging. Collectors will buy it for bragging rights and as an investment. It's not that complicated.
