Ya geez, I know, i'm out of sight under my office desk where no one can see. And the solution to gathering what's happening intel, it's that cool periscope popping over the desktop with an eyeball.

Ok, maybe Apple reaches 300mm in iPhone 16 (not 15, mind you!). Do you think Samsung is just going to sit around? They've already had 230-240mm 10x zoom for 3 years now, they're definitely highly likely to increase that soon otherwise they'll look stupid. So it's highly likely that zoom could increase in S24 ultra, and it could be 300mm. After all, to achieve that, less than 1cm of extra true focal length is needed. 300mm is equivalent, not actual FL. That's not too much space requirement.

it is to be hoped that the phone will have a wide enough edge to grip well with as now, and that optical image stabilization is effective, but were they to install a genuinely big chip of the old style that actually resolves 38MP like the old Microsoft Nokia 1020 does, you could zoom that from 26mm by about 8x with a little help to give you a 200mm tele without any need to mess about- just crop the centre out of a non-bayer 40MP sensor. This would give you the sharpest part of the lens, and the lens could be f1.6, much faster for short exposures than what will come if I know Apple. You could have a continuous zoom like the Leica Q2 camera does, cropping into its 47MP sensor. The tech WAS in use before quad bayer arrived to halt rivalry between phone cameras and DSLRS etc (on account of Sony not wanting to lose their lucrative camera market to their own sensors!!)
But I would not want it anyway, I would just walk a lot closer and use a true fast tele for portraits of about 85mm 35mm equivalent, which could easily be fitted as the "Main" lens instead of a 24-30ish wide angle.
The formats are still bad. A sharp fast true 12mm superwide with dual pixel AF and image stabilization fronting another 40-50MP non-bayer sensor could simply be zoomed into what most people use (24-35mm ish) with still enough resolution, and then another 35mm (35mm equiv.) could very simply provide the rest and be able to zoom in for 50mm, 80mm portraits.
You all need to get used to bigger bumps! Who NEEDS a super-thin phone anyway. Thinness destroys your ability to handhold steadily enough, and since now nobody provides a wristrap attachment to stop you dropping and breaking the phone and destroying its lenses sharpness, one wonders exactly why it is they make them like they do..

I think it will be just periscope variable telephoto camera like on Sony phones but with longer zoom range.

Asuran, 19 Jul 2023Bigger screen is the sole reason why people get the pro max... moreSmaller is more handy. And people get the Pro Max version because they think that pricier and bigger screen = better. Watching movies? Reading eBooks? Just get an iPad goddamn. I never like to do both things on my phone, it's just too small.

Michalis, 19 Jul 2023Embarrassing as it might be for apple that they've stu... moreIf you're never tried 120Hz screen before then you're fine lol. The problem is, once you tried 120Hz screen, it's hard to go back. Even though iPhone's animation is great, you will still see the stutters when scrolling through a long page like Instagram. The same goes to 60Hz and 120Hz screen on PCs. And yeah refresh rate is really matter when it comes to gaming.
