I'd rather see Samsung put a 50MP 1" sensor on the Ultra model. The Chinese brands have proved that sensor size is more impactful than triple-digit resolution. I don't know why the 200MP sensor exists at all when it relies on 16-to-1 pixel binning, and its overall pixel size at binned 12MP isn't much larger than the native unbinned RGB sensor of the 2021 Sony Xperia Pro-I that doesn't even use the whole 1" sensor canvas in the first place.

No big dea unless the person is a social media "aficionado"l. The latest isn't always the greatest. Though it's logical to expect it to be.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2023Has technology reached its limits?
Are there any major ne... moreIf you use established companies to judge that then yes. But remember , same was said in mid to late 00s and then outta nowhere Apple came (a desktop computer company, nothing to do with phones) and created a phone unlike any other and pretty much changed everything.
Something similar *can* happen , mere,y it wot happen from the established companies. You need a new Comer that is also powerful enough to build a mini computer that is interesting again. Doesn't have to be one of the ultra rich companies, it can be a smaller (but still otherwise big) player, a bitnof how Apple was back in the day.
I guess nVidia could be that. Then again their CEO lacks the vision. But I guess an actually *smart* phone would change everything and a company that creates the best AI hardware in conjuction with some AI software company *could* do that ... and it will absolutely kill the traditional phone makers... but yeah, I don't see it happening just like that.
If it is to happen , it will come outta nowhere and will look random at the time. A bit of how random it looked that a desktop computer company suddenly decided to build phones (they did say, that phones are actually palm tops / mini computers , to be fair).

notafanboy, 22 Jul 2023You aren't paying attention are you?Clearly you don't. Copy paste != Innovation. Samsung makes the OLED panels, camera sensors, and fab the chips (Exynos). The Chinese only slab over the shelve parts, install free OS with ads, and call it a day.

vrvly, 22 Jul 2023Multi aperture, fast charge, better lens/processing,number ... moreThat's what happen if you only have ancient cheap Samsung phone and cannot afford anything recent. You think there's no innovation.
Samsung is leading in cameras, Alo guide Google and Apple. Image quality all depends on the ISP, so it's on Qualcomm (Snapdragon) or Samsung (Exynos). The Chinese does nothing other than adding filters and paying brand names to slab the name on their phone. Fast charging is almost a gimmick as the Chinese only have proprietary methods while everyone else simply use USB-PD.
Name Chinese phones that do variable aperture. Do you even have one? LOL

I guess Samsung is so good with updates that getting the latest model isn't necessary to get the latest version of android. However, even switching the sensor or lens in the selfie camera for the sake of keeping up appearances might boost sales.

I have both s23 ultra and the Honor magic 5 pro.
Man, they're not even in the same league. The hype and marketing is strong with Samsung, but the reality is that the Honor is WAY superior on the main cam. Faster shutter speed of course, but also better HDR, better bokeh, superb and natural textures...
Samsung did a huge mistake with the 200mp sensor. To me, it's even worse than the s22 ultra. There is way too much oversharpening.
Granted, the front cam is still the best out there. The 3x and 10x are serviceable while not fantastic.

All smartphone makers play that game and do incremental changes every year to entice people to ditch their perfectly capable phones and get the latest and greatest.

They shouldn’t lol. The S23’s series selfie camera has amazing HDR and even better quality than the S22U’s 40MP selfie camera. Just another point that megapixels are not everything. It’s the quality of the sensor being used.
