build on top means, they change a little here and there
Forked means, it WAS based on, but now already very different and not compatible in a big way.

EMUI is a castrated version of android ----> BAD

Kindly guide me on how I could get it done. Gbox is decent but doesn't cut it. That said, we all have to rethink how vulnerable we are to Google. It's pretty bad without access to GMS - so many apps require GMS to function properly. For instance, opening a google meet link - in EMUI you have to copy it into the app instead of just clicking on it. There are positives though - discovering things like petal maps which is quite good in many ways, and also in small ways starting to wean myself off Google or at least developing redundancies. I recommend we give ourselves a challenge: "life without Google" for a couple of days - see how that goes and determine your personal level of dependence.

& yeah, EMUI without Google Bloat actually have better standby time & smoother due to no Google Analytics constantly running & phoning home in the background after owning & currently using their later Nova phone with EMUI(no google). I would have been more happier if HarmonyOS is available for this device as Im not particularly reliant on Google services.

I've had a Huawei Nova 9. Two things have been frustrating, one not within Huawei's Control, the other 100% their fault. The first is the realization of how heavily reliant I am on Google and GMS. The fault there is mine, and the lack of access is a fault of global politics. There's nothing Huawei can do about that other than provide alternatives, which they are doing. The second is this ridiculous decision by Huawei to deny global Huawei clients access to Harmony OS. It is absolutely ridiculous and frustrating. I can still buy Huawei devices minus GMS, but I will not buy another Huwaei device while Huawei Consciously limits my access to superior versions of the software I am using on the phone. It make no sense, sounds discriminatory and is utterly unfair. On a positive note, Huawei phones are amazing. EMUI 12 is the King of multi-tasking and is super smooth. It's a fantastic phone really. Still not over the lack of GMS but I blame other people for that (including myself for getting myself into such a vulnerable position that the lack of GMS affects me so much). If there is any Huawei agent reading this, I don't know whether our opinions matter but just in case they do, we (the global Huawei customers) are ready and have been ready for the switch to Harmony for a year now. Please don't allow a switch to other manufacturers to come before a switch to Harmony. That is entirely, 100% up to you. It is very sad for us to hear you say that we are not ready. Heartbreaking and sad.

I wonder if you could do a test for me?
Login to your HuaweiID. Visit cloud.huawei.com, input the security details and then select Huawei Drive.
Can you see and navigate the file structure of your Huawei Drive?
If you cannot (I think you will see it is impossible) please try clicking of the 'desktop version' of the site and try again.

One last question. When you download Huawei Browser via App Gallery does it download the version specific to your area or the generic Chinese version?

What I don't really understand is why Huawei differentiates Harmony OS and EMUI if both are built on top of AOSP? Why not just Harmony or just EMUI?

Anonymous, 24 Jul 2023Will still be useless. No google, no buy. People have not t... moreYou may have not used a Huawei phone. I have been using one and the banking apps are working fine, I have installed 5 banking apps, with payment support like NFC and QR and did not have any issues with them.
I understand that some people cannot live without Google services but there are millions of people out there that can go on with their lives just fine.
For Gmail emails? I just use their email app and I am able to access 4 emails including 3 non-Google emails, without any sync issues.
Photos and Google Maps? Use Gbox/Gspace, I rarely use maps and I only use Photos to backup my photos because I still have the Google 1 subscription. I use a different gallery.
Contact sync? Have you heard about exporting and importing contact VCF files? Once you exported your contacts and imported them to your Huawei then you can use their services for backup and sync.
I don't know for others but I try to look for solutions for any problems, maybe some people are just lazy to figure things out. I think it is good to try one out first, they say that the first step is always the hardest.
By the way, I use a Huawei P40 without Google Mobile Services, I would be happy to try this HOS4.0 out on my phone though but I guess it won't be supported.

Note how many features are available to US consumers that global customers don't get. China companies are the same, they look after their primary market first which is China. The rest of the world gets drips and drabs because they are minor players. So its essentially the same, just that people's inbred discrimination enables a more focused discrimination against the Chinese.

Most recent aosp-based roms weight around less than 2gb. People always talk about samsung oneui's bloatwares but it weight around 3gb.
