Sony's upcoming IMX903 and IMX907 smartphone image sensors detailed

25 July 2023
The IMX903 could be the sensor that Apple uses in the iPhone 15 Pro Max main camera.

Darth Caesium, 25 Jul 2023I think that 1"-type sensors should be the largest the... moreYou contradict yourself as a vertically stacked sensor will theoretically be smaller in size than a normal sensor.

So it can be used to reduce the depth of the sensor module size. Which is good as Micro 4/3 sensor are coming to smartphones in the near future.

CargoJoe, 25 Jul 2023The IMX903 is probably gonna be what's powering the iP... moreA different rumour says the IMX903 will power the iPhone 16 Pro Max and not this year's iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Anonymous, 25 Jul 2023Is 1“ the largest they will go, or will they go even bigger... moreThe Chinese smartphone manufacturers will keep bringing larger sensors, which is a good thing for smartphone photography 📸 Xiaomi are already working on a Micro 4/3 sensor for a future flagship, likely the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

APS-C sensors will eventually come to smartphones as well. What's the limit well a full frame sensor is the goal, who knows maybe in 10 years it will be possible if they can shrink the depth.

The IMX903 is probably gonna be what's powering the iPhone 15 Pro. As for the IMX907, I hope Sony can use one of this too. In all honesty, I hope Google goes back to using Sony sensors.

sirol, 25 Jul 2023If put 4/3“ into phone will be too big camera bump.Xiaomi are currently testing a prototype smartphone with a Micro 4/3 sensor in the main camera sensor. With the goal for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra to use it in 2024 👌

Technology always shrinks in time through advancements. The camera hump won't be that much bigger than the 1 inch sensors in the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Oppo Find X6 Pro, Vivo X90 Pro+.

Afterseeing virtually no difference between the 1.56 sensor of the s23, the 1.3 sensor of the s23 ultra, and the 1.28 sensor of the iPhone 14 pro, I couldn't care less. If anything, the worst pictures are by far from thr iPhone 14 pro due to Apple's excessive oversharpening, proving once again that it's all about the software nowadays, and not the hardware.

Anonymous, 25 Jul 2023Is 1“ the largest they will go, or will they go even bigger... moreI think that 1"-type sensors should be the largest they should go with. Space would be too much of a problem if they went any larger, and there's other ways of increasing the amount of light hitting a sensor. They could have a 1"-type 50MP Sony sensor with this latest vertically stacked CMOS technology that also has an RGBW colour filter, and there would be a lot of increase in light intensity without having to deal with space, heat and power constraints.

Is 1“ the largest they will go, or will they go even bigger? Like 4/3“ or APS-C?
(I know that 1“ is not really 1“ but just marketing)
