$480? Now that's a worthy offer. I still have concern for Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, but even I struggle to see taking the Sony Xperia 10 v over this phone.

Instead of having SD Gen 4, 6, 7, 8 that are differentiated only by the clock speeds and core counts - we allowed them to also screw the image processing / AI that you basically need a high end chip just to have a normal photo coming out from your device..i guess it's getting a bit better since androids started rapidly losing the marketshare (good) so they made something normal this time around.

HTC U23 is aimed at a "target" market whatever it is.
I can't find or I haven't searched in depth Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 2 costs more than Apple Bionic 6 and more than Mediatek Dimensity 9200, price unknown.
Overpriced or not these phones will sell success depends on whether they achieve the volume expected
Sometimes networks make mistakes, mine certainly did in the allowances offered which I assume most people will choose to get the handset.
It wasn't an obvious mistake (We cannot ship the phone) but significant, it was corrected later.
€72 overprice is €3 pm over 24 months
What works here is 3.5mm jack and memory expansion (Xperia 1 V) the U23 get IP 67, the N (2) despite the better chip IP54
Ignoring the A17 Bionic if the Dimensity 9300 post better Benchmarks than the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 or comes close this should lead to lower prices all round and / or more better specs phones due to better chips

And about pricing/profit...
"Phone A" is being sold at 100% profit over what it cost the company, but it only sold 10,000 units
"Phone B" is being sold at only 40% profit over what it cost the company, but it sold 800,000 units

The hate of using SD 7 Gen 1 instead of 2 is totally justified. SD 7 Gen 1 is basically 778G on the Samsung node which is way worse - exynos crap basically. Look at Geekerwan's video about SoCs (there's a graph, of course, basically no power) and you'll then realize how stupid you are for defending this bullsh.

While Htc, Sony and Asus together probably dont sell 4 million, all them are still around.
There is no way to know how many they can sell.
All them have targets, price according to it.
Lower price does not make sales better.
Otherwise phones from 2021/22 would be selling much more than current models.
Your logic is broken and would bankrupt a business. Lowering price forces more units to be sold, this means more phones made and more costs just to have same revenue in the end.
Foreign brand will never be able to have lower final costs of china phones. Just the import taxes on components have huge impact, when china phones use many local suppliers and do not need to ship internationally.
