Yes, other options like Sony technically do exist, but you can't buy them in a carrier store. Right now Samsung's only competition for foldables is with Motorola/Lenovo on the Flip, and the Pixel Fold. I know Motorola's flip phone is a bit cheaper than Samsung, but they've developed a bad reputation since Lenovo bought them from Google. On the other hand, the Pixel Fold is actually worse than last year's Fold 4. So it's safe to say that Samsung's foldable market share is secure for another year.

Darth Caesium, 26 Jul 2023I wish Samsung did this: •Inner display: ✓8.04" Fo... more🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💩

    You want 1/2" at 240mm?

Samsung and Huawei had 1/4" at this range to keep periscope slim.
This is no one else bother to use this focal length to avoid sacrificing sensor size.

    Go see how much thicker is a 200mm or 300mm lens compared to 24, 50, 85, 135mm on 📷.

      Another failure from Samsung

      1) outer screen should be at least 1080p.
      2) inner screen should be at least 450ppi.
      3) it has smaller battery than s23+, same 4400 seen on flip from vivo
      4) main cam is not HP2, should be
      5) no periscope
      6) no dust proof

Way better to get S23+ and S9 tab over this .. you also save money

its another no from me for another year, the fold line is already tired looking next to the likes of Huawei and Honor and probably more, the ONLY thing keeping it where it is is because most of the other foldables have not been release outside of china or in Huaweis case, it is expensive and lacks GMS, if these other flagship devices where available globally and at comparable prices I think the samsung fold line would drastically diminish in sales, and thus force them to change design ethos, they like apple now simply lack creativity and rely soley on brand loyalty to push their devices to users

Nothing new here, same cameras, s-pen is not integrated, battery smaller than Fold2, charging is the same for 5 generations, epic fail!

I think zfold 4 will get a sale boost. Pathetic

I love the new s-pen!! Reminds me of the note 9's yellow and blue combination

                I wish Samsung did this:

                •Inner display:
                ✓8.04" Foldable LTPO AMOLED
                ✓2880×2160 (4:3) (447ppi)

                ✓Corning Gorrila Glass Victus 2

•Curved back for better grip, along with curved outer screen to help with the grip (otherwise I would never want a curved screen)

•Stylus slot, comes with stylus out of the box

•5000mAh battery through stacked battery tech

                •65W fast charging

                •Titanium alloy frame and hinge

✓0.3MP, ToF 3D LiDAR (depth, biometrics, Laser AF)

                •Inner screen selfie cameras:

•No display crease on inner display at all

                •IP68 rating (1m depth, up to 30mins)

Nice Galaxy Note9 reference there Samsung, you still know that phone is peak.

The new S Pen with just a slight bulge in the case is quite a welcome change.

MRSTEK, 26 Jul 2023The inner display is a nice 3:2 one, while the cover displa... moreI also think the inner display benefits greatly from a Pen Input.
So this device SHOULD have a built-in Pen Silo just like the old Note Series. Nobody wants to make the device heavier, thicker, and uglier with a case. Especially if they're forking out thousands of dollars and salivating at the marketing/ads about it's design and aesthetics.

Ideally there should be only one display, a big one on the outside that can be used like a phone or folded outwards to be used like a tablet. Huawei got it right initially. It was just that the technology wasn't there yet (still not there?) when it comes to making a foldable display to actually be durable. Have a look at the expensive 2023 Samsung xCover 6 Pro, it is a flat display phone, yet it's display is fairly durable, then look at the same year's Samsung Fold Z4 which costs even more money but is super flimsy in comparison.

So, basically no improvements on the inner display on the Fold 5.

Epic fail. All hype on the leaks about minimizing the crease but in the end it still no fix on that ugly center crease. lol.

At this rate, they should just call it the Z Fold 3SS.

No dust protection which is critical I think. Looks like I'm gong to have to ditch the fold and move to either a pixel 8 or try an iPhone

"generally more of a refinement piece, rather than an overhaul. Which is probably not a bad thing"

Yeah it wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't the third year in a row.

asking for 1700$ but still can't find a place inside to host the S Pen. come on Samsung, you know you can do better, jeez.

The inner display is a nice 3:2 one, while the cover display is still somehow too tall at 23.1:9. Better to try 21:9 next time! In this situation the inner can still be something like 4:3.
