No hard feelings and i honestly agree with you but your so called experience can be called luck is nothing more and nothing less. Something like peace of mind does not exist because each of eprsons acts differently when something like this happens.
Lady hope is also just a luck.
You were lucky and if said IPXX rating helped you its good to you many else people could not say the same because of luck.
No pushing no forcing just telling my honest opinion based on view which i personaly see.
Had many phones in my life and only one ended in toilet and died after being expsed to water for less than a 5 seconds but that was very long time ago with Huawei Y3 first generation. Since then never had any water or dust damage issue with any other water and dust resistant or not IPXX certified at all phone.

Wish you a have marvelous day.

I havnt used the Fold 4 but I know its barely an upgrade like I think I wrote. The hinge is definitely better, the SoC is better, but for me these wouldnt warrant paying 700€ extra than for a Fold 4 atm.

Foldables are a dying breed and they won’t replace the current smartphones that we have

Many flips and folds 4 are failing at the screen level, not the hinge or the outer display, yet they don’t care and these tech sites are paid to rarely acknowledge that foldables are a failure in every way possible

notafanboy, 29 Jul 2023When will you people learn that IP rating doesn't mean... moreFun story:

One day i dropped my ip68 phone somewhere and didn't know where is it, so i walked through all places i've been that day and i finally found it in pond full of water on the middle od some street. The phone was all covered with water and turned off, but probably because i was calling my self on that phone in hope to at least see the light of the screen turned on. I guess i was lucky to find out that my ip68 phone when turned on, was working perfectly fine like before dumping into a pond of water. Ip certificate at least gave me a chance for hope. I know there are some phones tested without ip certificate and they still resisted dust or water, but if you want to risk it go for it. Do it. I don't want to and i have my reasonings for it.

                      Another fun story:

My wife was having a phone which was not IP certified and she was having problems with touch on screen and not wanting to charge because it said the port has some moisture on it. How? From where? From the sweat of her hands or what? She never dropped it into water and she's even not using it when it's raining outside.

I am perfectly aware ip certificates are not covered in warranty, but then again i have to ask my self a question.

Do i have at least some peace of mind with ip certificate on devices i'm using be it a phone, bt speaker, camera or something else? Yes i have.

You do yours and i'll do mine. Everything's okay with that. But please don't push your personal beliefs into facts. Because what you said is not a fact. No hard feelings of course. This is my opinion and we're here to share them. You don't have to reply if you want to persuade me into your believs. I have my reasonings and i trust ip certificate more then if there wasn't any. Experience is my main factor in deciding what to buy next. That's my choice. I respect yours, do you respect mine? I doubt. But it would be nice if you would.

Again no hard feelings, just my opinion.
                      Cheers!

Tried out the Fold 5 yesterday. Have to say that with a quick demo it was really impressive, but I do agree that for the price (increase) it definitely did not change enough from the Fold 4. new SoC and the hinge it should've always had does not really justify costing more than what a Fold 4 can be had for right now.

Kinda keeping tabs on the OnePlus alternative for now..

Easy way to fix water and dust proofing while saving money... Dont buy a foldable... Simple. Flips arent up to proper flagship standard phones yet cost the same for far too many downgrades/issues, just get a flagship with the ip rating (tbh a premium mid ranger will beat a flip phone all round). For the £1300+ foldables again get a last gen flagship, run rings round it, and a tablet, which will run rings round it, will get better endruance out the 2 vs a foldable while saving probably £400+.

Foldables are for people who want to be dfferent and stand out or tech savy who like trying different tech, pointless otherwise.

Anonymous, 29 Jul 2023need more time meanwhile, buy more of the released product... moreAn 8k display at 6-7 inches, why? The quality increase vs power consumption is 100% not worth it. (i doubt you'd see any difference between 4k and 8k at that size)

Also you aint gaming at 8k 144hz, i dont think any current apps run at 144hz either (current phones at 144hz are pointless vs 120hz).

15000mah battery, so you want to carry a brick around that will not meet airline standards so will not be allowed on planes incase of exploding batteries, amount of heat this type of phone would create would be insane.

Again with that camera set up you couldnt have a 15kmah battery, no room unless you literally want a 1kg brick in your pocket, also you realise how expensive that camera system would be (on top of a what, £5'000 screen, you a millionaire or something?) not to mention the processing power you would need to handle it all (basically a full fat DLSR camera in a phone is what you want).

The only "reasonable" thing you've said is a quad dac phone which only time its been properly useful in a phone was the lg g5 with its modular design, could connect it to a pc/laptop to improve audio (purchasable add on).

Living in kookoo land or just are all anons just this absurd and unreasonable?

Please wait a little longer... you only need to pay $1,000 for the current Z Fold5 and if it comes next year it's just another $1,000... remember it's good for the economy okay

Once again its Dust resistant not a dust proof.
Like its Water resistant not a waterproof.
And as long as no company going t include water and dust damage into the warranty of a device whole IPXX rating is nothing but an useless costly and expensive gimmick where any dust and water proof case bought from site like Alliexpress or wish for 2 euros does a lot better job than few rubbers and seals.

Lastly its a phone not a submarine.
If they i mean Samsung or any other chinese or nonchinese company would like to impress me and anyone else they should make a completely Dust and Water proof device just like submarine. Which can stay idifinetely ammount of time in Sandstorm or lying on seabed in depths far greater than just 1,5 metres for crappy 30 minutes which does not impress anyone.

So once again as long as there is no warranty for device when being exposed to any kind of liquid like salt seawater, chlorinated water etc. dust, sand etc. Whether user have or dont have IPXX rating it realyl does not matter because its nothing but a cstly gimmick compared to said case which makes significant difference protecting your device from any kind of harm from water, other liquids, dust, sand clay etc.
Few rubbers and seals if not included in warranty does not help at all if you have bad luck you have to pay very expensive repair. In case of water damage you can pay 2-3 times more than is the cost of brand new device.

                                Its simple as that.
                                End of story.

They should be researching ways to make the plastic foldable screen much more durable and scratch resistant.

All current foldables come pre-installed with a plastic screen protector over the foldable plastic screen that voids the warranty if you remove it!

Longevity of a foldable phone is way less than a regular glass screen phone. Unless a big advancement comes in making the plastic foldable screen as scratch resistant as a gorilla glass screen. Hence why foldables will remain as a niche segment.
