And clearly if you are comparing to an iPhone obviously the other phone is going to be a better buy. Duh. Ppor example.
But as much as it's better than an iPhone in most ways the xperias have consistently been behind in most technologies.
Its only since the last one and the 1 V that the price and specs finally compare. And that's in part only because everyone else getting lazier and becoming more like apple.
So Sony didn't even have to update much to start evening out.
And that's again only the last 1 or 2 phones. It does not justify their pricing in any way shape or form.
But it's about time they start to catch up in some way....
It being ok to you does not justify what they've been doing no matter how you twist it.

Here in Malaysia, the Xperia 1 Mk5 costs exactly the same as the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB. And with Apple going to increase the price of iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, the Sony becomes a real value-for-money premium flagship hardware.

Not sure if I care about OS update anymore sonce most people buy phones through carriers and always change it every year or two. Also, what are you blabbing about "weakest version of Android"? Is it because it use stock AOSP UI, just like Google, ASUS, and Motorola phones? Tell that to a lot of Xiaomi users who always flash custom ROMs, they always prefer stock AOSP UI over MIUI all day long.

Not to mention that Sony has one of the weakest versions of Android. I for one, don't wantt to pay 1100 euros for a phone with only 2 years of updates and poor version of OS. We know you're a die hard fan of Sony but those who truly love tech and they are not just blind fans, will always admit the negatives of a phone.

They have so much potential yet bottom dwell uselessly. They save millions compared to others on so many levels by cutting back on hardware, software, advertisement, releases, Carrier availability/compatibility, and yet still charge so much more than everyone for something not only lacking but that most don't even know exists..... it's sad.

Why does Sony keep selling phones in the US? They don't bother with carrier compatibility at all. You're getting a flagship that drops signal constantly because it can't do VoWiFi, VoNR, SA 5G, talk to any rural telcos, or even do carrier aggregation correctly.

There's no point in buying an expensive phone in the first place if you only do social media and web browsing. You may as well buy sub-$400 phones and get the job done. I use my phone as a PC through Desktop Mode and primary photography/videography gear, so I see positive values in buying a Sony phone.

Anonymous, 31 Jul 2023why not buy a real camera instead of a phone?I'm not lugging around my camera with all my lenses, so portability is always the key. Nowadays, I only keep my Mirrorless camera for professional work. For most of the time, smartphone cameras is more than enough. Also, there are more evolutions on smartphone photography than dedicated. Even Sony CEO himself said that smartphone camera can be on par with DSLR in few years time*. Looking at the Xperia 1 Mk5 photo quality, they really mean it.

I managed to try out my friend's Xperia Pro-I, even though he already got his own dedicated Nikon DSLR camera, and it simply blows my mind away. Not even any Samsung or Apple phone can come close to it.

What they did, instead of stretching the resolution for Ultrawide, they took 4K and cut it down to make it look wider. And then it goes further, because they use a PenTile subpixel structure you get even less diodes, since it's "shared pixels" rather than individual."
Yeah I forgot to mention this as well.
