Kangal, 31 Jul 2023Also keep in mind, even though Sony calls this a "4K S... moreSony has managed to certify CinemaWide 4K display standard at following specs: resolution must be 3840 × 1644 or bigger but in 21:9 (2.33:1) aspect ratio, sometimes incorrectly called Cinemascope 2.39:1 with resolution 4096 × 1716. Basically it's a mess. Sony has probably managed to do that thanks to their film division. It means nothing for us anyway but just now you can't really say 3840 x 1644 is not 4K. LOL

SuuperBaka, 30 Jul 2023"1. You need to dig a little bit deeper about how rend... moreAlso keep in mind, even though Sony calls this a "4K Screen" you actually have LESS pixels than True-4K. What they did, instead of stretching the resolution for Ultrawide, they took 4K and cut it down to make it look wider. And then it goes further, because they use a PenTile subpixel structure you get even less diodes, since it's "shared pixels" rather than individual.

If you want a True-4K phone, you can look at the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. It has an RGB subpixel structure, so individual pixels. Just compare the total subpixels between the two and you'll understand the Sony 1 mk V has something like only 40% total versus the XZp.

So to me, that is disingenuous to call it "4K". Maybe 3K would've been fine, or even saying 1700p sounds more accurate. Which begs the question; why bother? The battery drain is high with their current setup, and other companies are just making fun of you at this point.
    I personally go by:
    Large --- 68mm display side - 1440p x 3360
    Medium - 63mm display side - 1080p x 2520
    Small ----- 58mm display side - 720p x 1680

There is only pixel density and the current cut off is 640dpi and above which is where this display belong once it lights up all pixels individually.

Second, you misunderstood what was written. Even if app developers provide svg graphics that can scale up to cover 60dpi> density it means nothing for Xperia 1 because this alone will not trigger pixels to go light up individually because Sony doesn't allow it. Sony allows individual pixels to light up only when there is an image or video on screen.

Sony has decided to regroup the pixels only when there is an image or video displayed on screen. Also there is zero benefit to run 4K grouping on and app such as WhatsApp cause app consist of graphics that don't need extra pixel precision to show detail like image or video need.

Here in Malaysia, the Sony cost exactly the same as the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB. Yes, they both cost $1,400. It's an easy Sony for me all day long.
