You're probably right, I just went on the Android developer site and did a quick skim through.

"Sony has a WHITELIST for apps. Check XDA forums for Xperia devices, there have been discussions on this topic since X1M3"

Do you have a link to this? I looked through XDA and reddit and found a few apps, but I don't have a complete list.

"You CANNOT run the whole device in 4K even if you modify the system.Currently there's NO way to force rendering at NATIVE 4K solution. The best you can get is 4K contents DOWNSCALED to 2K then UPSCALED to 4K"

Yeah, I had a feeling you can't run the device in native 4K. I didn't know it was downscaled then upscaled to 4K.

You guys are probably right here then, I should look more into this.

1400 USD? Dead on arrival, there is no logical reason to choose this over Samsung S23 Ultra. They even removed the notification LED, which was one of the "quality of life" features which made me buy Xperia 5 II over equivalent Samsung, but over years I realized nothing makes up for the horrible software Sony provides.

At least you could've bothered reading the review on this site where it clearly says "The full 4K resolution is used primarily in multimedia apps such as Photos and video playback/streaming across different services.]

We already know it's not always on 4K and works in multimedia apps. This isn't new, it's been the same way since the OG Xperia 1 and maybe before.

"So who's fault is it except sony that even homescreen doesn't work in 4k? (don't answer. I know you gonna write another stupid excuse)."

I will answer. Sony limits the resolution during home screen and when apps aren't using it to preserve battery. How long do you think it would last if it was always on 4K?

I'm not arguing home screen, I'm arguing apps that aren't made by Sony, don't have 4K because they don't support it. It's not on Sony to make those apps, it's on the other companies. There are companies who have made it support Xperia devices that they work fine.

[Also most current apps don't have hardcoded resolution.]

                            Not sure about this.

[They have vectors so they will scale depending on display. It's clearly sony who forbids 4k in anything other than select apps]

From my understanding of vectors, drawable help scale based on the screen size. I will admit that I don't know much about this, but after a quick run-through, according to Google:
"As such, vector graphics can scale to any size without scaling artifacts, though they're usually best for illustrations such as icons, not photographs."

It's not that good for photographs (and videos), it's meant more for the icons. That's why when you force the 4K on Xperia phones, the icons also change.

There are also other methods to work around uncommon density issues.

"It's clearly sony who forbids 4k in anything other than select apps"

It's not. Sony doesn't limit them, it's the other developers. You can run the whole device in 4K if you want to do so. All you do is change it manually, but there will be problems running the device.
